SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Red Heart® Lolli™: 1 ball, Watermelon
  • Knitting needles - size US 8
  • 1 Set Susan Bates® Double-Pointed needles: Size US 8
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle

DIRECTIONS:

Directions are for 6 months. Change for size 12 months is in parentheses.
Finished circumference: 17" (18)"

GAUGE: 11 sts = 4"; 18 rows = 4" in Stockinette Stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge.

SPECIAL STITCH
K2tog =
Knit 2 stitches together (dec).

PATTERN STITCHES
Stockinette Stitch
Row 1 (Right Side): Knit all sts.
Row 2: Purl all sts..
Repeat rows 1-2.

Garter Stitch
Knit every row.

NOTE
Narrow Hat Band is knit side to side on straight needles. Then bind off all sts and sew ends together.
Crown is picked up along edge of joined Hat Band and knit in the round using double-pointed needles,
then worked to top.

Hat Band
With straight needles, cast on 7 sts.
Row 1 (Right Side): Work in Garter st. until Hat Band strip measures 17" (18)" from beginning.
Bind off all sts.
Sew cast on edge of Hat Band strip to bound off edge of strip making a circle.

Hat
With double-pointed needles, pick up evenly 45 (50) sts along edge of Hat Band. Divide sts over 3 needles and place marker for beginning of round.
Round 1: Knit.
Knit every round until hat measures 4" (5)" from lower edge of Hat Band.

Shape Crown
Round 1: (dec) *K3,k2tog*; repeat from * across―36 (40) sts.
Round 2:
Knit.
Round 3: (dec) *K2,k2tog*; repeat from * across―27 (30) sts.
Round 4:
Knit.
Round 5: (dec) *
K1,k2tog*; repeat from * across―18 (20) sts.
Round 6:
Knit.
Round 7: (dec) *K2tog*; repeat from * across―9 (10) sts.
Cut yarn and draw through remaining sts twice. Draw up firmly; fasten securely.

FINISHING

Weave in ends.
