very dissatified

My husband bought this lite as a gift to me. loved it for lighting and the magnifyer was great to have when making jewelry...helped to see the small parts. but recently the pole just cracked right in half at the seam! i had just tapped it lightly. i called customer service but w/out a receipt, they couldn't do anything for me but have me SHIP it back to them...then pay shipping fees...told me it was better to just buy a new one. nope! not after seeing the lack of good quality in the way the pole was built ( the lite was fine). now i am stuck w/ a great lite and a broken pole. this company either needs to build a better product or stand behind it. or both!

I bought my 1st one over 4yrs ago to use in my family room so I could be productive while watching TV with the family.It made my needlework so much easier that I bought a 2nd one for my bedroom.I've used them for cross stitch,needlepoint,reading & quilting.As a couple people pointed out,beware that other family members may park in your seat because they want to read by your light.I solved this problem by purchasing more OttLites. I currently own 3 of this model,1 floor model that is a brushed nickel metal & the clip on version of this model so that I could clip it to my sewing machine table.I made sure that all five lamps use the same light bulb but have not needed to replace any yet.None ever broke.I recommend OttLite for every room.

I was excited to buy this because I really value good task lighting. As an engineer myself, all I can say is...what a miserably poor design. Look at the base, then look at how the light can be position in any direction. If the light is not positioned DIRECTLY above the base (in line / parallel), it is unstable and can be knocked over by a feather. My teenager tapped it with his foot, and it fell over. I touched it in passing twice, and had to catch it before it fell to the floor. Today, my husband tapped it in passing, it fell and now does not work. If you choose to purchase the light, put something very heavy (book?) on the base to weight it down. The light quality is good. The magnifier (while helpful) is a poor quality plastic.

Ott lite customer service

I purchased a lamp like this in 2007. Several weeks ago it just stopped working. After running to Joanns for a new bulb and still not working I called customer service. A girl named Melissa called me back and when I have her the model and serial she told me it was still under warrenty. If I would cut the cord, take a picture of the cut cord and email it to her she would send a new lamp for shipping costs of $9.00. I sent the picture this morning, she called with in 10 minutes to get a card number and then emailed me with a confirmation number and told me I should have a new lamp within 10 business days. I think that is great customer service and standing behind the product.

The new improvement in OTT-LITE

I read and appreciate the previous reviewer's comments. I do want to say that the new lamp I purchased a few weeks ago has a VERY HEAVY weighted base, the peces fi together very nicely and I only fear the plastic pieces have wingbolts ...if overtightened they crack the plastic. Otherwise, this is a very nicely made piece. Buy it on Sale, the regular price is a bit much.

Poor Quality

My lamp looks good and I am sure it would be useful for stamping if I could get it to work. Changed bulbs, but still no joy. I would never buy this product again.

Broke in half...

I purchased my OTT Lamp w/3xMagnifier a couple of years ago. I also have the smaller portable OTT lights. I absolutely love the OTT Lights because you can see what you're doing and see colours well. The major *AND* quite dangerous drawbacks to the OTT Lamp is that it cannot handle it's own weight. You must have very heavy weight on the stand or else, it will just fall over. Secondly, I moved the light towards my work and kaboom, it broke in half like smooth butter. I called OTT Co. and they were not professional. The woman who answered said can't refund/return because it's out of warranty. Sad shame a company treats customers so poorly & yet just prey on $$$. If it breaks, it's your problem, not theirs. Buyers Beware.

Another great Ott-Lite product

I've had this lamp for quite a few years. I use this for knitting and sewing and I get perfect color matching. With the wonderful magnifier attachment I never make mistakes. I work on my crafts for hours and I never want to be without my Ott-Lite. If you don't have an Ott-Lite you need to get one.
