SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • DecoArt Americana® Acrylics: Tangerine, Lamp (Ebony) Black, True Red, Light Buttermilk, Primary Yellow, Wisteria, Calypso Blue, Citron Green
  • Felt pennants, 4-packs (2)
  • Water container
  • Palette or plastic plate
  • Paper towels
  • Tracing paper
  • Transfer paper
  • Scissors
  • #2 round brush
  • #12 flat brush
  • #1 liner brush
  • Hole punch
  • Jute (ribbon or yarn)
  • Black pen

DIRECTIONS:

    NOTE: Allow to dry completely between painting steps.
  1. Use pen and tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer each pattern background to a different banner.
  2. Use #2 round brush and True Red to basecoat both apple pennants. Rinse brush.
  3. Use #2 round brush and Primary Yellow to basecoat both ruler pennants. Rinse brush.
  4. Use #2 round brush and load separately with Calypso Blue, Tangerine, and Wisteria to basecoat both book pennants. Rinse brush before switching colors and at end.
  5. Use same brush and Primary Yellow to basecoat pencils. Rinse brush. Use same brush and Light Buttermilk to paint wooden tip.
  6. Continue adding Light Buttermilk to apples with same brush.
  7. Fill in book pages with Light Buttermilk and same brush. Rinse brush.
  8. Use #1 liner brush and Lamp Black to add inch lines and numbers to both ruler pennants.
  9. Using same brush and color, add pencil details and lead.
  10. Use same brush and color to add seeds and stems to both apple pennants.
  11. Use same brush and color to make light page marks on both book pennants. Rinse brush. Let all dry completely.
  12. Use black pen and tracing and transfer papers to trace and transfer number, letters, swirls, and word patterns to pennants.
  13. Use #2 round brush and Lamp Black to outline and fill in "100."
  14. Use #12 flat brush and Lamp Black to fill in letter "D." Rinse brush.
  15. Use #2 round brush and Lamp Black to fill in letter "a."
  16. Use same brush and color to fill in letter "y."
  17. Use same brush and color to fill in letter "s."
  18. Use #1 liner brush and Lamp Black to fill in swirls and "of."
  19. Use same brush and color to fill in word "school." Rinse brush.
  20. Use #2 round brush and Citron Green to fill in between stripes on "y." Rinse brush.
  21. Use #1 liner brush and Citron Green to outline part of letter "y." Allow to dry completely.
  22. Once banner is fully dry, use hole punch to add hole at each end of each pennant. Use scissors to cut ribbon, jute, or yarn long enough to attach all pennants into banner. Tie knot at each end and it is ready to hang.
