  • Moss 8 9 10 12 14 balls
  • Sizes U.S. 4 & U.S. 6 knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension.

  • 22 sts and 28 rows = 4" with larger needles in stocking st.

DIRECTIONS:

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). Numbers for each size are shown in the same color
throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it applies to all sizes.

BACK
**With smaller needles cast on 98 (122-134-158-182) sts.
Knit 5 rows (garter st), noting _rst row is WS.
Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row: K1. (K2tog) twice. *(yo. K1) 4 times. (K2tog) 4 times. Rep from * to last 9 sts. (yo. K1) 4 times. (K2tog) twice. K1.
4th row: Knit.
These 4 rows form Feather and Fan Pat.**
Note: When determining lengths, allow piece to hang while measuring. Cont in pat until work from beg measures approx 22 (22-23-23-23)" , ending with a 4th row of pat.
***Place pat for neck shaping: 1st row: (RS).
Pat 26 (38-38-50-62) sts. K46 (46-58-58-58).
Pat 26 (38-38-50-62) sts.
Rep last row 8 times more [keeping center 46 (46-58-58-58) sts in garter st].
Shape neck: Next row: (WS). Pat 26 (38-38-50-62) sts. K4. Cast o_ center 38 (38-50-50-50) sts. K4 (including st on needle after cast o_). Pat 26 (38-38-50-62) sts. Cont in pat on last 26 (38-38-50-62) sts, AT SAME TIME, working garter st across 4 sts at neck edge until work from beg measures 25 (25-26-26-26)" [63.5 (63.5-66-66-66) cm], ending with a WS row.
Shape shoulder: Cast o_ 10 (14-14-18-22) sts beg next and following alt row. Work 1 row even in pat. Cast o_ rem 10 (14-14-18-22) sts. With RS facing, join yarn to rem sts. K4. Pat 26
(38-38-50-62) sts. Cont in pat on 26 (38-38-50-62) sts, AT SAME
TIME, working garter st across 4 sts at neck edge until work from beg measures 25 (25-26-26-26)" [63.5 (63.5-66-66-66) cm], ending
with a RS row.
Shape shoulder: Cast o_ 10 (14-14-18-22) sts beg next and following alt row. Work 1 row even in pat. Cast o_ rem 10 (14-14-18-22) sts.***

FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back. Cont in pat until work from beg measures approx 19 (19-20-20-20)" , ending with a 4th row of pat.
Work from *** to *** as given for Back.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Place markers on side edges (8---9)" [19 (20.5-21.5-21.5-23) cm] down from shoulder seams.
Armbands: With RS of work facing and smaller needles, pick up and knit 77 (81-85-85-89) sts evenly between markers. Knit 7 rows (garter st). Cast off knitwise (WS). Sew side and armband seams.
