RUFFLE PILLOW
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • April Cornell® Aqua Fresca Fabric Collection:
    1/3 yd Freida
    7/8 yd Splendour
  • 16"x16" pillow form
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Matching thread
  • Iron & pressing surface

DIRECTIONS:
1. From Freida, cut 3 strips 3"x40".
2. From Splendour, cut 3 squares 17"x17".
3. Fold the top edge of 2 squares under 7" to measure 17"x10" and top stitch along the folded edge. With right sides of fabric facing up, overlap the folded edges until the fabrics make a 17"x17" square. Pin and stitch along the sides that overlap.
4. Stitch the three strips together to create one long strip. Finish one long edge of the strip by turning and pressing the raw edge under 1/4". Turn and press the folded edge under 1/4" again and topstitch.
5. Make 1" knife pleats at 2" intervals for the first 40" of the strip.
6. Make 1" knife pleats at 1½" intervals for the next 40" of the strip.
7. Make 1" knife pleats at 1" intervals for the balance of the strip.
8. The one remaining square will be the front of the pillow. Lightly mark a 10" circle in center of the square to use as a guide. Begin with the end of the strip where the pleats are 2" apart and pin the raw edge of the strip along the circle. Continue to pin around the circle, stopping just before you make one complete circle. Using the longest stitch on your machine, attach the pleated ruffle. Continue to pin the strip in a spiraling manner, stitching as you complete each circle. When you reach the middle of the circle, tuck the raw edge under and topstitch in place.
