SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Deborah Norville Collection Serenity Garden yarn: Hibiscus, 2 balls; or color of choice
  • Knitting Needles, Size 4, 20"" circular & set of double-pointed needles or size to obtain gauge
  • Stitch marker
  • Stitch holder
  • Yarn needle

DIRECTIONS:

Beret Band Circumference: 22"" stretched
Gauge
24 sts and 36 rnds = 4"" in Stockinette stitch. Use any size needles necessary to obtain the specified gauge.

Special Abbreviation:
M1 (make 1):
An increase worked by lifting the horizontal thread lying between the needles and placing it onto left needle to make a new stitch. Knit this new stitch through the back loop.

BERET
With circular needle (or dpns), cast on 136 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 1"".
Next Rnd: * K2tog, yo; rep from * around. Knit 1 rnd.
Inc Rnd: * K17, pm, yo; rep from * around – 144 sts. Knit 1 rnd.
Inc Rnd: * Knit to next marker, slip marker, yo; rep from * around – 152 sts.
Rep last 2 rnds, working one more stitch between markers every Inc Rnd, until work measures 3"" from beg.
Knit 1 rnd.
Dec Rnd: * Knit to 2 sts before next marker, k2tog, slip marker, yo, k2tog; rep from * around.
Knit 1 rnd. Rep last 2 rnds, working one fewer stitch between markers every Dec Rnd, until work measures 5"" from beg.
Dec Rnd: * Knit to 2 sts before next marker, k2tog, slip marker; rep from * around.
Knit 1 rnd. Rep last 2 rnds until 24 sts rem.
Next Rnd: [K2tog, k1] 8 times – 16 sts rem. Cut yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end through eye
