I don’t know about you, but school mornings are crazy in my house. Organization is the key to my sanity! I find with organization, my children are less stressed… I’m less stressed… and if we’re lucky we even have time for a real breakfast. You know, bacon and eggs, instead of cereal bars. {wink}

Hi there! Kim Byers from The Celebration Shoppe here, with free printable day of the week hanger labels for your kids’ closets. These allow my family to make all those clothing decisions on the weekends, instead of arguing over what to wear in those few precious morning minutes.

In addition to the free printable day of the week hanger labels, which I designed in ombre color combos for both boys and girls, I’m sharing a bit about our overall closet organization. Here are five quick tips to a better closet for your kids:

  1. Label school clothes for each day of the week use my free printables to pick out all those school clothes in advance. And I recommend placing them in a separate area of the closet so there is no confusion. My kids do wear uniforms, but this still helps them (and me) to know on Sunday that they have enough to get them through the week. There is nothing worse than waking up and not having a clean pair of pants for school. Oh, it has happened! {grin}
  2. Store baseball caps, off-season clothing, etc. place all items that your child doesn’t use daily or for a season in out-of-the-way containers like fabric cube boxes.
  3. Organize by type – separate all your child’s clothes by type. For instance, we have all short sleeve t-shirts together, all short sleeve collar shirts together, all long sleeve t-shirts together, etc. It makes it easier for a child to see what is available depending on what the day or weather holds. I know my kids have “lost” brand new clothes in their closets before. {smirk} Well, not this year!
  4. Easy to access hamper – place a hamper for “special” clothes in their closet. For us, this is a uniform only hamper (in these darling wire baskets) because I want to wash them at the same time each week and not have to wrestle with the rest of the laundry to find them. But in my closet, I have a few for dry cleaning, sweaters and intimates. I don’t want anyone in the family (he will not be named) destroying my clothes.
  5. Store extra toys and stuffed animals – my kids’ rooms can overflow if we don’t keep them under control. I mean, the number of stuffed animals alone… let’s just say we have to rotate them. The “extras” are placed in the top of the closet and then we rotate every week or so.

Okay, let’s get crafty! You’ll need:

  • Printable download – Boy version & Girl version available below
  • Paper trimmer or good scissors
  • 5” circle punch or Xacto knife
  • Bone folder (or butter knife)
  • Recommended: Use 8.5×11 photo paper for durability. The coating on the paper makes the colors pop and is much harder to tear.

Easy steps:

  1. Trim out the labels
  2. Punch the circle out of the top. {Tip: Depending on your punch, you may have to trim a bit more off the top to allow your punch to match up with the white hole in the design.}
  3. Score (using the gray dash score marks as a guide) the label so that it bends. To score, place the label in your paper trimmer to hold it in place, and use a bone folder to score the line. You can also use a ruler.

I created two versions in ombre stripes. For the boys I stayed with blue, green, orange and yellow. For the girls, I included pink and purple. I also gave the girls a few more frilly fonts!
