DIY Hot Cocoa Bar

I know that Halloween just passed and we haven’t even had Thanksgiving yet, but I am so excited for the holiday season to get here. If you are anything like me, with the cold weather comes plenty of hot chocolate. Hi, I’m Kara of A Kailo Chic Life, and today I am going to share an easy, colorful hot chocolate bar that you whip up for your next get together. And when I say colorful, I mean colorful!

That’s right! That is colorful hot chocolate you see there! Isn’t it just so fun?! And it could not be simpler to make. All you need are Wilton candy melts in different colors and warm milk. Then just place a few (about 7-8 pieces) of coating chocolate in your cup, top with warm milk and stir until your chocolate is melted. And viola, colorful hot chocolate!

Now that you have the recipe for the hot cocoa, let’s talk about all the extras! Hot chocolate is not complete without marshmallows. To go along with the colorful cocoa theme, use a bit of Wilton spray food coloring to color plain white marshmallows for a fun gradient look.

Are they not just the most fun marshmallows you have ever seen? And really quite simple to make! Display them for everyone to see and easily add to their drinks in a pretty glass container with a spray painted top for a little extra pizzazz.

Another fun addition to the plain milk bottles that I used for the hot cocoa was a candy and sprinkle coated rim. To make your own, melt white coating chocolate in a bowl, dip your bottle top into the chocolate and them dip into a mixture of colorful sprinkles.

We now have a sprinkle covered bottle filled with colorful hot chocolate and topped with colorful gradient marshmallows. What’s next you ask? How about a few colorful wood snowflakes? Just use acrylic craft paint to paint these wood snowflake cutouts (you can find more sizes in-store) different colors to match your hot chocolate and then hang on the wall using double sided tape.

As the last finishing touch to your hot cocoa bar, paint the outside edge of plastic cups with paint and then fill with your coating chocolate so that everyone can choose what color they want to make their cup of hot cocoa.

So there you have it! A super simple way to create the perfect colorful hot cocoa bar for the holidays or anytime really, because what’s better than a cup of hot cocoa to warm you up on a cold winter’s day?
