DIY Perler Bead Coasters

With summer in full swing, there’s nothing better than a delicious cold drink on a hot sunny day! If only those pesky bugs didn’t like to help themselves to our drinks! Trying to swat the bugs away can be a total buzz kill (pun intended), but today’s project will solve that problem. These Perler Bead Coasters double as cup covers, so they will keep bugs out of your drink and also can be used to protect your furniture. I’m Abby from Sew Much Ado, and today I’m sharing how to create your own Perler Bead Coasters!

JOANN Fabric and Craft Stores has an amazing selection of Perler Beads, including large and small sets with many different options and templates. For today’s project, I used a large set that can be found in the store. It contained 8000 beads in 20 different colors – the options are truly endless!

I made 4 pairs of coordinating coasters, and all 8 designs are perfect for summer fun!

For each coaster, you’ll leave a hole in the center for a straw. Leave the iron on a tad longer for a smoother look, or leave it just long enough to keep a more pixilated look. Feel free to mix up the colors however you’d like, and let’s get started!

Perler Bead Tweezer Plus – this little tool is invaluable for picking up and placing the tiny beads!
Circle and square templates – ensure they are slightly larger than the top of the cups you plan to use them with
