One of my favorite activities to do with my family is craft, watch movies, and eat popcorn. It’s become our tradition to make fun popcorn together, make a pallet of tons of pillows and blankets on the living room floor and watch fun family movies at least once a month.
Is preparation of National Popcorn Day on 1/19, I’m going all in! I crafted a fun little popcorn bar with 3 types of popcorn, DIY popcorn basket trays, popcorn pom pom decorated popcorn baskets, and a little craft for the kids where they can decorate their own popcorn baskets with markers. It should be a blast! Below I am sharing all the details how to to recreate it at home for your own family.
Let’s start with the pom pom popcorn baskets. To make, you will need to use a pom pom maker and white and yellow to make 3 white pom poms and one yellow pom pom. Then use a glue gun to attach the pom poms to the front of your popcorn basket to look like a popcorn kernel.
Next, you will want to make the felt trays that each family member can use to hold their popcorn baskets. To make these you will need 1 sheet of stiff felt, a hot glue gun, and glitter stickers or sticky felt letters. Begin by hot gluing the corners of the felt sheet into triangles.
Next glue the corner over to create a square edge.
Repeat with all four corners and then hot glue on your stickers or use sticky felt letters to adorn each tray with your family member’s names.
For a craft for the kids, I used white berry baskets and markers and let each kid decorate their popcorn baskets anyway they wanted.
And finally, the most important part of a popcorn night, the popcorn! For national popcorn day we are going all out with three different flavors. Butter of course (my daughter’s favorite!), a sweet version made by tossing popcorn with melted Wilton white candy melts, sprinkles, and mini marshmallows sprayed with a little Wilton food mist food coloring to give them a burst of color, and finally a savory parmesan herb popcorn. The parmesan herb popcorn can be made by melting popcorn, adding in a few tablespoons of chopped herbs like parsely, chives, and oregano, and then tossing the popcorn in the herb butter and sprinkling on the Parmesan cheese.
There are so many fun ways to enjoy a popcorn, craft, and movie night with your family and I hope I inspired you with a few new ideas. What are ways your family likes to spend time together?
