Knitting in the round, fun fact: You’ll never work on the wrong side of the fabric, when

working in the round.

Pattern notes: The body of these mitts are worked in Reverse Stockinette Stitch. Since they’re also worked in part, in-the-round, and back-and-forth (for thumb opening portion), this stitch looks different respectively.

  • Reverse Stockinette Stitch (in-the-round)
  • Purl every rnd.
  • Reverse Stockinette Stitch (back-and-forth)
  • RS: Purl.
  • WS: Knit.

With A, CO 24(28)sts. Divide sts evenly over 3 dpns. Join rnd, taking care not to twist. This portion’s worked in-the-round.

Bottom Cuff:

Rnds 1-6: *K2, p2; rep from * around.

Rnd 1: With A, purl.

Join B.

Rnd 2: With B, purl.

Maintaining 1×1 stripe pattern, rep Rnds 1-2, until piece measures 3”/7.5 cm from CO edge.

Thumb opening:

Ok, not we’re going to take a break from working in-the-round. Working back-and-forth in rows will create the opening for a thumb.

Row 1(RS): With A, purl sts on all needles, Turn.

Row 2 (WS): Knit.

Note: On RS, you work needles 1, 2, 3; on the WS, you work needles 3, 2, 1.

Row 3: With B, Purl.

Row 4: Knit.

Maintaining 2 x 2 stripe pattern, rep Rnds 1-4 until piece measures 5”/12.5 cm.

Cut B.

Top Cuff:

Revert to working in rounds.

Rnd 1: With A, purl.

Rnds 2-5: *K1, p1; rep from around.

BO in rib pattern.

Weave in ends.

Repeat for second mitt, but swapping colors A & B.
