No-Sew Fleece Bunny Blanket
With Easter around the corner, we love looking for cute crafts we can create that celebrate the holiday while spending time with our family. Which is why I love no-sew fleece projects. Fleece is such a wonderful textile that often goes underutilized in the holiday Season. This fabulous fabric is perfect for beginner crafters and seamstresses to work with, as it does not fray, does not need to be lined, and can be used for a variety of projects. From home decor to apparel, fleece is perfect for adults and kids to work with alike. Which make it great for projects that you can do WITH your kids!!! That being said, I thought it might be fun to put a holiday spin on the classic no-sew fleece blanket. Showing off just how easy it is to customize a no-sew blanket, for almost any holiday!
No-Sew Fleece Bunny Blanket.
Skill Level: Beginner friendly.
Time Needed: 1-2 hours.
● 1 Yard Fleece Fabric
● 1 Yard Alternate Color Fleece Fabric
● Fabric Scissors
● Pen / Marker
● *Rotary Cutter Optional
Step One: Lay out the fleece fabric that you want as your MAIN blanket color. Using a pen or marker, draw out a basic bunny face shape in the very center of your fleece. Keep it simple! I traced around the bottom of a frying pan to help make the circular face shape. Make sure to keep a good sized space in between your ears when drawing.
Step Two: Using your fabric scissors or a rotary cutter, cut out the bunny shape and set aside.
Step Three: Cut small 2” slits all around the empty space bunny shape, about 1” apart.
Step Four: Lay your cut out bunny shape on top of the alternate color fleece.
Step Five: Using a pen or marker, draw around the bunny shape ADDING ON 2” of seam allowance all around.
Step Six: Cut small 2” slits all around your alternate color fleece bunny, about 1” apart.
Step Seven: Place the alternate color bunny directly on top of the empty bunny space of the other main fleece.
Step Eight: Start tying the fleece pieces together in a knot, going from one end of the bunny all the way around. It helps to sometimes tie pieces together at various spots, and work your way in between – such as the top of the ears, the sides of the face, etc. Also, if you find you have more ties on one side, simply use two strips in one knot.
Step Nine: Once completed, gently pull the fleece bunny shape on all sides stretching the fleece fabric and bringing the bunny head shape back to its full size.
And you are finished!
Make this no-sew fleece bunny blanket at a kids Easter party, or simply with the family in an afternoon. You can get creative and turn it into other animals as well, including a dog, a bear, or more. You (and your kids!) will love just how easy and fun this no-sew craft is.
