Spruce Up Your Bathroom This Summer with This Simple DIY

It’s been three years since I, Kara from A Kailo Chic Life, moved into my current home. When we first moved in, I spent months tackling tons of home projects then the DIY burn out came, and our home has continued on with some rooms in half finished state. So, when I was asked to update a bathroom using some of the new decor and supplies from Joann Fabric and Craft Stores, I was pumped to finally tackle my master bathroom (which was one of those rooms where I just sort of stopped in the middle of decorating).

The number one project on my list for the Master bathroom was to repaint the vanity. Not that the cherry stained wood was bad, but I just wanted a little more color there, then came the fun summer accessories. It’s crazy how much a little paint and a few decor pieces can really change the look of a space! And without further ado, the ugly before photos!

And here is the bathroom now:

For the cabinets, I tried my hand and using milk paint (casein based paint) and I am obsessed! After repainting my entire kitchen when we moved in, I was sort of dreading painting more cabinets, but the milk paint and primer was super easy to use and dried to a very nice finish with not streaks or paint lines.

To prep the cabinets I cleaned them with a damp cloth and then added a coat of primer/sealer that went along with the milk paint. Once the primer was dry, I added 3-4 coats of milk paint letting them dry for 30 minutes in-between coats. Once dry, I added another coat of the sealer to make everything stand up to day to day use.

After the painting came the accessories! I added in a few palm leaf and pom pom trimmed hand towels, two palm leaf wood art pieces, a pretty white basket to sub out our hamper. Of course, these pretty brass palm leaves and vase had to come home with me too. And that “Wake up and be Awesome” light box was a must!

I love the summery look of the space and when summer is over, it will be easy to swap out the accessories to give the space a more subdued winter look.

So, are you ready to make over your space yet?!
