SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Blossomwood Collection quilting fabrics:
    • 1-1/2 yd Jacobean Floral
    • 1/2 yd Black-eyed Susan
    • 1/2 yd Monotone Scroll Green
    • 1/2 yd Monotone Scroll Blue
    • 1/2 yd Lilacs
    • 1/2 yd Solid Brown
    • 2-1/3 yds Pussywillows
    • 1-1/2 yd Linear Paisley
    • 4-7/8 yds Linear Paisley: for binding & backing
  • Full-size batting
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine
  • Template material

WOF = Width of Fabric
LOF = Length of Fabric

DIRECTIONS: Read all directions before beginning and press after each step. All seam allowances are 1/4". See PDF for Examples referenced.

CUTTING:

  • Label pieces as they are cut. From Template material cut: 3-1/2" square then crosscut the square to create 2 triangles. The triangle templates can be used to trim the trapezoids & diamonds detailed in the cutting instructions below.
  • From Jacobean Floral cut: 3 strips 10-7/8"xWOF. From the strips cut 8 squares 10-7/8"; crosscut each square once to create 16 triangles for Unit 1. 6 strips 3-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut sixteen 13"x3-1/2" rectangles. Use the templates to cut a 45° triangle piece off both ends of each rectangle to create 16 trapezoids (Example A) for Unit 2.
  • From Linear Paisley, 1-1/2 yd cut: 3 strips 10-7/8"xWOF. From the strips cut 8 squares 10-7/8"; crosscut each square once to create 16 triangles for Unit 3. 6 strips 3-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut sixteen 13"x3-1/2" rectangles. Use the templates to cut a 45° triangle piece off both ends of each rectangle to create 16 trapezoids (Example A) for Unit 4.
  • From Black-eyed Susan cut: 4 strips 3-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut sixteen 8"x3-1/2" rectangles. Use the templates to cut a 45° triangle from both ends of each rectangle to create 16 diamonds (Example B) for Unit 5.
  • From Monotone Scroll Green cut: 4 strips 3-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut sixteen 8"x3-1/2" rectangles. Use the templates to cut a 45° triangle from both ends of each rectangle to create 16 diamonds (Example B) for Unit 6.
  • From Monotone Scroll Blue cut: 4 strips 3-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut sixteen 8"x3-1/2" rectangles. Use the templates to cut a 45° triangle from both ends of each rectangle to create 16 diamonds (Example B) for Unit 7.
  • From Lilacs cut: 4 strips 3-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut sixteen 8"x3-1/2" rectangles. Use the templates to cut a 45° triangle from both ends of each rectangle to create 16 diamonds (Example B) for Unit 8.
  • From Solid Brown cut: 8 strips 1-3/4"xWOF, 1st Border for Unit 9.
  • From Pussywillows cut: 4 strips 4-3/4"xWOF, 2nd Border for Unit 10. 2 strips 4-3/4"xLOF, 2nd Border for Unit 11.

ASSEMBLY:

  1. Sew a Black-eyed Susan Unit 5 and a Lilacs Unit 8 diamond to each end of the 16 Linear Paisley Unit 4 trapezoids. All 16 pieced units should be sewn with the Unit 5 and Unit 8 diamonds in the same position as the diamonds in the diagram at right.
  2. Sew a Linear Paisley Unit 3 triangle to each Step 1 strip.
  3. Sew a Monotone Scroll Green Unit 6 & a Monotone Scroll Blue Unit 7 diamond to each end of the 16 Jacobean Floral Unit 2 trapezoids. All 16 pieced units should look the same. The Unit 6 & Unit 7 diamonds should be on the same sides as the diamonds in the diagram at right.
  4. Sew a Jacobean Floral Unit 1 triangle to each Step 3 strip.
  5. Sew each Step 2 unit to a Step 4 unit along the long edges of the triangles to create 16 blocks.
  6. Referring to the quilt picture for placement, sew 4 blocks together to create a row. Create 4 rows.
  7. Sew the 4 rows from Step 6 together to create a 561/2" square quilt center.
  8. Sew 2 Solid Brown Unit 9 strips together to create a long strip. Repeat to create 4 strips.
  9. Measure the top and bottom of the Step 7 quilt center. Average the two measurements and cut 2 Solid Brown Step 8 strips to 56-1/2"x1-3/4". Sew the strips to the top and bottom of the Step 7 quilt center.
  10. Measure the sides of the Step 9 unit. Average the 2 measurements and cut 2 Solid Brown Step 8 strips to 59"x1-3/4". Sew the strips to the sides of the Step 9 piece.
  11. Measure the sides of Step 10 unit. Average the 2 measurements & cut 2 Pussywillows LOF Unit 11 strips the average length, 59"x4-3/4". Sew the strips to the sides of the Step 10 piece.
  12. Sew 2 Pussywillows Unit 10 strips together to create a long strip. Repeat to create 2 strips. Measure the top and bottom of the Step 11 unit; cut the strips 68-1/2"x4-3/4.
  13. Sew the Step 12 strips to the top and bottom of the Step 11 unit.
  14. Use the 4-7/8 yards Linear Paisley to create the back and binding for the quilt.
  15. Layer, quilt and bind as desired. Finished size 68" square.
