SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 4- Wooden hangers
  • 1 Yard of white cotton fabric with silver flecks
  • 1 Bottle of matte finish decoupage
  • Medium paint brush
  • Detailed paint brush
  • Bottle of blush colored acrylic paint
  • Silver metallic paint marker
  • Scissors
  • X-acto knife
  • Metal straight edge or ruler
  • 1- Roll of 12 gauge aluminum floral wire “Wired Accents”
  • Small needle nose pliers
  • Drill with small bit, thickness of 12 gauge wire
  • Wire cutters

DIRECTIONS:

PAINTED HANGERS

  1. On the face of the hanger lightly draw with a pencil the word bridesmaid, using a font of your choice.
  2. Using the blush acrylic paint fill in the word bridesmaid.  You will need to paint 2-3 layers letting it dry between layers.
  3. Underline or shadow each letter in the word bridesmaid with the silver paint marker.

WIRED HANGERS

  1. Using the matte decoupage and medium paintbrush paint a layer of decoupage on the front of the hanger.  Press the fabric to the front of the hanger and trim off the excess with about 1” extra all the way around.
  2. Continue to brush on the decoupage on the sides and press fabric around sides, cutting darts on the curves, wrapping it around to the back about 1/8” overlap.
  3. Using the x-acto knife and straight edge, trim the fabric on the backside making a nice clean line.  Let it dry.
  4. Brush decoupage on the backside and press on the fabric.  Using your x-acto knife and straight edge, cut the fabric at the edge on the backside overlapping the fabric underneath.  Let it dry.
  5. Select a font for the word bridesmaid.  Using needle nose and your fingers, bend the wire to form the word bridesmaid, leaving extra on each end of about 5 inches.
  6. It is helpful to use pencils or fat highlighter markers to help you bend the wire.
  7.  Once you have completed the word, center it in the base of the hanger.
  8. Drill holes only about ¼” deep 1” up from the bottom on each side of the hangers.
  9.  Trim wire word to fit in the space between the arms of the hanger.  Leave jut enough extra wire to slide into the drilled holes with a bit of tension to keep the wire word from sagging.
