SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Lion Brand® Ice Cream® Tropical 2 balls (A),Lemon Swirl 2 balls (B) or colors of choice
  • Crochet hook size G-6 (4.25 mm)
  • Large-eyed blunt needle

DIRECTIONS:

    • SIZE
    • About 33" x 33" (84 x 84 cm)

    • GAUGE
    • 16 hdc + 12 rows = about 4" (10 cm).
    • BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

    • NOTES
    • Three strips are worked separately, then sewn together to make the Afghan.
    • A border is worked around the outside edge of Afghan.
    • To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Proceed with new color. Cut old color, leaving a long tail to weave in later.

    • STRIP I (make 2)
    • With A, ch 42.
    • Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch do not count as a st) and in each ch across – you will have 40 hdc in this row.
    • Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in each st across.
    • Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 10" (25. 5 cm) from beg, change to B in last st of last row.
    • With B, rep Row 2 until piece measures about 20" (51 cm) from beg, change to A in last st of last row.
    • With A, rep Row 2 until piece measures about 30 in. (76 cm) from beg.
    • Fasten off.

    • STRIP II (make 1)
    • With B, ch 42.
    • Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch do not count as a st) and in each ch across – you will have 40 hdc in this row.
    • Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in each st across.
    • Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 10" (25. 5 cm) from beg, change to A in last st of last row.
    • With A, rep Row 2 until piece measures about 20 in. (51 cm) from beg, change to B in last st of last row.
    • With B, rep Row 2 until piece measures about 30 in. (76 cm) from beg.
    • Fasten off.

    • FINISHING
    • Matching long sides, lay strips side by side onto a flat surface in the following order: Strip I, Strip II, Strip I. Sew Strips together along long edges.
    • Border
    • Join B with sl st anywhere along outside edge of Afghan.
    • Rnd 1: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), work hdc evenly spaced all the way around Afghan edge, working 3 hdc in each corner; join with sl st in first hdc.
    • Rnds 2-4: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), hdc in each st around, working 3 hdc in center st at each corner; join with sl st in first hdc.
    • Fasten off.
    • Weave in ends.
