SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Felt
  • Scissors
  • Embroidery floss/thread
  • Needle
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Jars
  • Spray paint
  • Stuffing
  • Paper board
  • Flower buttons

DIRECTIONS:

    Cactus 1:
  1. Spray paint jar and allow to dry.
  2. Print template 1, scale to fit jar opening.
  3. Cut 2 of template out of felt.
  4. Glue or stitch edges together, leaving bottom open; stuff.
  5. Cut strip of paper board height of jar; make a tube that it slightly smaller than the jar opening; glue.
  6. Cut a circle of felt slight larger than the opening of the tube.
  7. Glue felt across tube and place into jar, creating a flat surface across the top of jar.
  8. Glue open end of cactus to surface you just created on the jar.

    Cactus 2:
  1. Spray paint jar and allow to dry.
  2. Print template 2, scale to fit jar opening.
  3. Cut 6 of template out of felt.
  4. Stitch the edges of 2 pieces together, leaving bottom open, creating 3 pieces.
  5. Stack all 3 and stitch through mid line, this will create 6 openings.
  6. Stuff each opening.
  7. Cut strip of paper board height of jar; make a tube slightly smaller than the jar opening; glue.
  8. Cut a circle of felt slightly larger than the opening of the tube.
  9. Glue felt across tube and place into jar, creating a flat surface across the top of jar.
  10. Glue open end of cactus to surface you just created on the jar.

    Cactus 3
  1. Spray paint lid of jar and allow to dry.
  2. Cut a 4" diameter circle, a 6" diameter circle and 2- 1" diameter circles out of felt.
  3. Baste around edge of each circle.
  4. Pull stitch tight, leaving a small opening and extra thread on ends.
  5. Stuff and tie off with the baste stitch, creating an oblong ball.
  6. Glue small circle to bottom to cover stuffing.
  7. Using embroidery floss, thread through middle of ball from bottom to top.
  8. Take floss from top and thread back though the bottom, repeat 4-6, rotating the ball each time to create wedges along the outside.
  9. Repeat for the other ball.
  10. Stack the smaller ball on top of the larger ball, thread embroidery floss though middle of the two balls, attaching them.
  11. Thread button and thread back though both balls; tie off.
  12. Glue bottom to lid of jar.
    Tips:
  • Use embroidery floss to create cactus prickles. Stitch through 1/4" section of felt tie in a knot and trim off extra.
  • Can glue any of these to the lid of a jar to have a functioning jar to hold small scissors, tape measure, etc.
