  • Circular knitting needle size 10, 16"
GAUGE: 13 sts = 4" in St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd).

PATTERN STITCH: K2, p2 Rib (worked in the rnd). Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around. Rep Rnd 1 for K2, p2 Rib. Regular instruction lists begin with 'Directions' in bold, 'Notes' are italicized and each line is double spaced by 2

DIRECTIONS: Pattern is written for shortest hat with changes for longer hats in ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.

With circular needle, cast on 60 sts. Join, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beg of rnd. Work in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures 1½" from beg. Change to St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) working until piece measures 5" (7", 9") from beg.

Shape Crown: Change to double-pointed needles when you have too few sts to fit on circular needle.
Rnd 1: *K8, place a marker, k2tog; rep from * around – 54 sts rem at the end of this rnd.
Markers placed on Rnd 1 are in addition to beg of rnd marker. Rnd 2: Knit. Rnd 3: *K to marker, slip marker, k2tog; rep from * around.
Rnd 4: Knit. Rep last 2 rnds until 12 sts rem. Next Rnd: (K2tog) around – 6 sts rem at the end of this rnd. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail into large-eyed blunt needle and then through sts of last rnd (remove double-pointed needles) & pull to gather. Knot securely.

FINISHING: Weave in ends.
Finished circumference 19"
Finished length 8" (10", 12")

ABBREVIATIONS: beg = begin(ning), k = knit, k2tog = knit 2 together, p = purl, rem = remaining, rep = repeat, rnd = round(s), st(s) = stitch(es), St st = Stockinette stitch
