One 15"x35" piece of fabric from the character toss (outside fabric)
One 15"x35" piece of fabric from the coordinating fabric (lining)
Four 15"x3" strips from the coordinating fabric (casing)
Four 2-1/2"by width of fabric from the coordinating fabric (drawstring)
One 15"x14" piece of coordinating fabric (pocket)

1. Fold the pocket in half along the 14" width and press.
2. Measure 16" down from the top of the outside fabric, trace a line, place the pocket on the line, stitch in place, fold over (right side up) and baste along both sides. Stitch down the center of the pocket to create a divided pocket.
3. Create the drawstring by placing two of the drawstring strips together along the 2-1/2" sides, stitch in place and press. Fold the length (84") of the drawstring fabric in half, press, unfold and fold the raw edges into the center, press, fold again, press and edgestitch each side. Repeat for the other drawstring. Cut the two strips into 64" lengths and use the remainder of strips for the handle and loops.
4. Measure 2-1/2" up from the bottom of the pocket and mark the spot.
5. Cut two 3" strips from the leftover drawstring for the loops. Place the D ring in one of the loops, fold in half, align the loop on the mark with the raw edge facing out and baste in place. Repeat for the other loop.
6. Sandwich the batting, outside fabric and lining together with the drawstrings sandwiched between the outside fabric and lining. Fold in half with the lining on the out side and pin in place. Stitch down both sides leaving 1" at the top on each side un-stitched. Stitch a second time to reinforce the seams.
7. Fold the bottom of the bag so the side seam is in the center, measure 1-1/2” from the point, trace a line and stitch on the line to create the gusset. Repeat for the other side.
8. Turn the backpack inside out so the right sides of the fabric are facing out.
9. Cut a 5" strip from one of the drawstrings for the handle. Place the handle in the center of the top edge of the backside of the backpack and stitch in place.
10. Create the casing for the drawstring by place two of the strips of fabric together and stitch along one long edge. Press the seam open. Press both sides in 1/2” and stitch close to the fold. Press the long raw edges of the fabric in 1/4" toward the center seam. Fold in half on the seam and press.
11. Pin the casing to the top edge of the bag placing the un-stitched edges 3/8" down from the top edge of the bag. Topstitch along the bottom edge of the drawstring casing and top stitch 1/4" up from that stitch to cover the raw edges of the top of the bag.
12. Thread a 64" length of drawstring through the drawstring casing. Loop each end around the D ring and stitch to hold. Thread the other drawstring in the opposite direction; loop each around the D ring and stitch to hold. Stitch a second time to reinforce the seams.
