DIRECTIONS:

CLASSIC ELEGANCE DRESS:

Note: Follow pattern with the following exceptions:

  1. Remove some of the fullness from the skirt by cutting the skirt fabric a bit narrower.
  2. Make the waistband out of black satin.
  3. When the dress is complete, create the coordinating cummerbund following the included directions.

CLASSIC ELEGANCE PLEATED CUMMERBUND:

  1. Measure waist for size needed. Double that measurement and add 3".
  2. Cut a piece of black satin 10" by length established in step 1. Note: Fabric may need to be pieced.
  3. Fold in half lengthwise and with right sides together; sew a 1/2" seam along entire length.
  4. Press seam open, then turn right side out and press so that seam lays flat in the center back.
  5. Turn under 1/2" on one end and stitch closed, close to edge.
  6. With chalk pencil, disappearing marker or pins, lightly mark every inch along length.
  7. Beginning at closed end, make 1/2" pleats every inch. Press.
  8. Sew pleats flat along center of cummerbund. It may be helpful to pin and press pleats as you go, working in small sections.
  9. Work to end of piece, then try on cummerbund to ensure proper fit. Fold unfinished end under 1/2" and stitch closed.
  10. Cut a 1" wide strip of fabric 1" longer than finished cummerbund. Fold both long edges in approximately 3/8" and press.
  11. Center the strip over center stitching and stitch close to edges on top and bottom.
  12. Hand sew beads along center band, clustering in one area and tapering out from there.
  13. Sew hook-and-eye closure to center, as needed.
