    • Mesh Pattern
    • Row 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, *dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk next st; rep from * to turning ch-sp, dc in turning ch-sp, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch.
    • Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), turn, sk first 2 sts, dc in next ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk next st, dc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * to last 2 sts, ch 1, sk next st, dc in top of turning ch.
    • Rep Rows 1 and 2 for Mesh pattern.

    • Fan Lace Pattern
    • Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, sk next ch-3 sp, 4 dc in next sc, *ch 3, sc in next ch-7 sp, 4 dc in next sc; rep from * to turning ch, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch.
    • Row 2: Ch 6 (counts as dc, ch 3), turn, sc in first dc of first 4-dc group, *ch 7, sk rem 3 dc of same 4-dc group, sk next sc, sk next ch-3 sp, sc in first dc of next 4-dc group; rep from * across working last sc in first dc of last 4-dc group, ch 3, sk rem 3 dc of last 4-dc group, dc in last sc.

    • NOTES:
    • Two Rectangles are made separately, then sewn together following diagrams to make the Poncho.
    • Yarn colors and pattern stitches are changed to create stripes and textures.
    • To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Proceed with new color. Fasten off old color.

    • Row 2: With A, ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), turn, sk first 2 sts, dc in next st, *ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st; rep from * to end of row – 98 dc and 97 ch-1 sps.
    • Rows 3-5: Beg with Row 1 of pattern, work in Mesh pattern with A, changing to B in last st of Row 5.
    • Rows 6-11: With B, continue in Mesh pattern as established – you will have 99 dc and 96 ch-1 sps on RS rows, and 98 dc and 97 ch-1 sps on WS rows.
    • Change to C in last st of Row 11.

    • Rows 13-15: Beg with Row 1 of pattern, work in Fan Lace pattern with C, changing to E in last st of Row 15.
    • Row 16: With E, work next row of Fan Lace pattern, changing to D in last st.
    • Rows 17-27: With D, continue in Fan Lace pattern as established – 29 sc, twenty-eight 4-dc groups, and 27 ch-3 sps on RS rows, and 2 dc, 28 sc, 27 ch-7 sps, and 2 ch-3 sps on WS rows.
    • Change to E in last st of Row 27.
    • Row 28: With E, ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), turn, sc in first dc of first 4-dc group, *ch 6, sk rem 3 dc of same 4-dc group, sk next sc, sk next ch-3 sp, sc in first dc of next 4-dc group; rep from * across working last sc in first dc of last 4-dc group, ch 2, sk rem 3 dc of last 4-dc group, dc in last sc – 2 dc, 28 sc, 27 ch-6 sps, and 2 ch-2 sps.

    • Change to D in last st of Row 33.

    • Row 34: With D, rep Row 12.
    • Row 35: With D, work Row 1 of Fan Lace pattern, changing to C in last st.
    • Row 36: With C, work Row 2 of Fan Lace pattern.

    • Row 43: With E, ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.

    • FINISHING:

    • Step 1: Following diagram, sew Rectangles tog along one long side, leaving about 12" (30.5 cm) unsewn for neck.
    • Step 2: Following diagram, fold piece in half to measure about 38" x 22-1/2" (96.5 x 57 cm). Measure 8" (20.5 cm) up from lower edge, then sew sides tog for about 1" (2.5 cm).
    • Unsewn edges below 1" (2.5 cm) seam are for side slits, unsewn edges above seam are for armholes.
    • Weave in ends.
