Description

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2 Tulip® Custom Color Lab 100% cotton yarn skeins
    • Worsted Weight
  • Tulip® Custom Color Lab Cotton Yarn Dye Kit®
    • Modern (Robin’s Egg Blue, Lemonade)
  • US 8 circular needles, 24”
  • Tapestry needle
  • Plastic or glass bowl
  • Plastic Table cover
  • Mason jars
  • Rubber bands
  • Wire rack

DIRECTIONS:

Space Dyed Instructions:

  1. Untwist yarn skeins and tie in three places with small strings of yarn to prevent tangling.
  2. Dampen yarn and wring out excess water.
  3. Lay out on covered work surface in an oval shape.
  4. Wearing gloves from kit, add water to dye bottles and shake to mix.
  5. Apply Robin’s Egg Blue and Lemonade to sections overlapping colors.  Leave one section white.
  6. Continue adding dye until desired look is achieved.

Tie Dyed Instructions:

  1. Add rubber bands to tie off sections of the pre-knitted cowl.
  2. Dampen cowl and wring out excess water.
  3. Wearing gloves from kit, add water to dye bottles and shake to mix.
  4. After mixing dyes, apply dye to tied off sections of cowl.
  5. Continue adding dye until desired look is achieved.

Dip Dye Instructions:

  1. Dampen pre-knitted cowl and wring out excess water.
  2. Wearing gloves from kit, add water to dye bottles and shake to mix and pour into separate Mason jars. 
  3. Submerge part of cowl in first color.
  4. Dip dye opposite end in second color.
  5. Lay out dyed cowl on wire rack to set.

Final steps for all techniques:

Wrap in plastic and let set 4-6 hours.  Rinse thoroughly under water until water runs clear. To dry, lay yarn or project flat on plastic covered surface.

GAUGE

  • 14 sts and 22 rows = 4” in seed stitch pattern
  • BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE

NOTES

  • K – Knit
  • P – Purl
  • CO -  Cast on
  • BO – Bind Off

PATTERN STITCH

CO: 61 sts
Join for knitting in the round

Round 1: K1, P1 to end
Round 2: P1, K1 to end

Continue working in seed stitch pattern (as established in rows 1 & 2) until desired length.

Loosely BO
Weave in Ends.
