SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • J. & P. Coats Royale Fashion Crochet Thread, 1 Ball - Warm Teal
  • Tapestry needle
  • Steel crochet hook, size 4 (2.0mm)
  • Frame of choice

GAUGE: Strip measures 1" wide.
CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION:

Sc2tog = draw up a loop in each of next 2 stitches, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

ABBREVIATIONS:

ch = chain;
hdc = half double crochet
mm = millimeters
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
sp(s) = space(s)
* = repeat whatever follows the * as indicated
[] = work directions given in brackets the num

DIRECTIONS:

STRIP (Make 4): Ch 2.

Beginning Miter

Row 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook; turn -- 2 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in last sc; turn -- 3 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in last 2 sc; turn -- 4 sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc; turn -- 5 sc.

Frame Strip-Row 1 (Right Side): Ch 4, hdc in first st, ch 1, skip next st, hdc in next st, ch 1, skip next st, hdc in last st; turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in first hdc, [hdc in next ch-1 sp, hdc in next hdc] twice; turn.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 1/2" less than desired length, end by working Row 2.

Ending Miter

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each hdc across; turn -- 5 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sc, sc2tog; turn -- 4 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in last 2 sc; turn -- 3 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first sc, sc2tog; turn -- 2 sts.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog. Fasten off. Repeat to make 4 strips of desired lengths.

FINISHING: Matching mitered edges of strips, lay out strips to form frame. Sew corner edges together. Weave in ends. Insert into frame as shown.
