Description

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Deborah Norville Collection: Serenity Sock Weight, Chili - 2 balls
  • Needles: US 2 (Set of 4 double pointed needles)
  • Extras: Yarn needle

DIRECTIONS:

Gauge: 16 sts and 16 rnds = 2" in textured eyelet pat. Use any
size needles necessary to obtain the specified gauge.

Pattern Notes:

Socks are worked from the top down.

When working purl sts into yarn over stitches, purl through back loop.
Take care when working the first two purls of Rnd 4. Make sure you are purling into the correct strand of the first stitch!

Sock (make 2)
Pull out yarn to beg of a solid color. Beg at top of cuff, cast on 64 (72) sts. Divide sts onto three needles as follows: needle 1 - 16 (18) sts, needle 2 - 32 (36) sts, needle 3 - 16 (18) sts.
Needles 1 & 3 will become sole sts, needle 2 will be instep
sts.
Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 1½".
Beg textured eyelet pat:
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: K 1, yo, ssk, * k2, yo, ssk; rep from * around to last st, kl.
Rnd 4: Purl.
Rnd 5: Knit.
Rnd 6: Knit.
Rnd 7: * K2, yo, ssk; rep from *to end of rnd.
Rnd 8: Purl.
Rep Rnds 1-8 for textured eyelet pat until cuff measures approximately 6" from beg, ending with needle 2 on a Rnd 8 rep.
Heel Flap
With working yarn at beg of needle 3, slip sts from needle 1 to end of needle 3 - 32 (36) sts. Divide sts on needle 2 onto two needles. Heel flap is worked back and forth in rows on one needle.
Row 1: * S1 1, kl, rep from* across.
Row 2: S1 1, p31 (35).
Rep Rows 1 and 2, 15 more times. Rep Row 1 once more.
Note: If you need a deeper heel flap, Rep Rows 1 and 2 once
or twice more. You will also need to pick up more sts along
each side of heel flap for gusset, and work additional dec rnds
to get back to original cast on number of sts.
Turn Heel
Beg working short rows to turn heel
Row 1: Sl l, pl7 (19), p2tog, p1; turn, leaving remaining
11(13) sts unworked.
Row 2: Sl 1, k5, k2tog, kl; turn, leaving remaining 11(13) sts unworked.
Row 3: Sl 1, p6, p2tog, p1; turn, leaving remaining 9 (11) sts unworked.
Row 4: Sl 1, k7, k2tog, kl; turn, leaving remaining 9 (11) sts unworked.
Rep Rows 3 and 4 having one more knit or purl st before dec, until 20 (22) sts remain on both working needles.
Next Row: Sl 1, p16 (18), p2tog; tum- 19 (21) sts.
Next Row: Sl 1, k16 (18), k2tog- 18 (20) sts.
Gussets
Rnd 1: Using needle with turned heel sts and working along side of heel flap, pick up and knit 16 sts in sl st edge along side of heel flap- needle 1, work Rnd 1 of textured eyelet pat across instep sts (combining them back onto one needle
2), with new needle pick up and knit 16 sts in sl st edge along side of heel flap and then k9 (10) from needle 1 - 82 sts with 25 sts on needles 1 and 3 and 32 sts on needle 2 (88 sts with 26 sts on needles 1 and 3 and 36 sts on needle 2).
Rnd 2: Needle 1 -knit; needle 2- work Rnd 2 of textured eyelet pat; needle 3 -knit.
Rnd 3: Needle 1 -knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, kl; needle 2-work next rnd of textured eyelet pat; needle 3- kl, ssk, knit rem sts - 80 (86) sts.
Rnd 4: Needle 1 -knit; needle 2- work next rnd of textured eyelet pat; needle 3 -knit all sts.
Rep Rnds 3 and 4 until16 (18) sts rem on needles 1 and 3-64
(72) sts total.
Work even in pat established on needle 2 until foot measures
7" or 2" less than desired foot length, ending with Row 3 or 7 of textured eyelet pat.
Toe
Rnd 1: Needle 1 -knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, kl; needle 2- kl,
ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, kl; needle 3 - k 1, ssk, knit rem
sts.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until 5 sts rem on needles 1 and 3 and 10 sts rem on needle 2. Cut yam, leaving a 15" end.
Finishing: Sl sts from needle 3 to needle 1. Graft toe sts tog using Kitchner St.
Weave in ends.
Tip: Instead of using Kirchner St to graft toe sts, thread end of yarn through live sts and pull to gather closed; knot tightly and run end back through gathered sts several times to secure; weave in end on wrong side and trim.
