SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Lion Brand® Shawl In A Ball: Soothing Blue, 1 ball or color of choice
  • Lion Brand® crochet hook size K-10.5 (6.5 mm)
  • Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle

    • SIZE
    • Finished Width 58" (112 cm), across top edge
    • Finished Length 26 1/2 in (71 cm), from center of top edge to lower point

    • GAUGE
    • 12 dc + 8 rows = about 4" (10 cm).
    • BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

    • DIRECTIONS:

    • Shawl is worked in one piece beg at center back neck.
    • Increases are worked on one side edge only to shape Shawl. The increase edge forms the top edge of Shawl.

    • SHAWL
    • Ch 3.
    • Row 1: Work 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch do not count as a st) – you will have 2 hdc at the end of this row.
    • Row 2: Ch 4 (does not count as a st), turn, 2 dc in first st, dc in last st – 3 dc and 1 beg ch-sp.
    • Row 3 (HDC Mesh Row): Ch 4 (does not count as a st), turn, sk first 2 sts, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in beg ch-sp – 3 hdc and 1 beg ch-sp.
    • Row 4: Ch 4 (does not count as a st), turn, 2 dc in first st, dc in each st to beg ch-sp, dc in first 2 ch of beg ch-sp – 6 dc and 1 beg ch-sp.
    • Row 5: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each st to beg ch-sp, 2 hdc in beg ch-sp – 8 hdc
    • Row 6 (DC Mesh Row): Ch 6 (does not count as a st), turn, sk first st, dc in next st, *ch 2, sk next 2 sts, dc in next st; rep from * across – 3 dc, 2 ch-2 sps and 1 beg ch-sp.
    • Row 7: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each dc and ch to beg ch-sp, hdc in first 2 ch of beg ch-sp, 2 hdc in next ch of beg ch-sp – 11 hdc
    • Row 8: Ch 4 (does not count as a st), turn, 2 dc in first st, dc in each st across – 12 dc and 1 beg ch-sp.
    • Row 9 (HDC Mesh Row): Ch 4, turn, sk first 2 sts, hdc in next st, *ch 2, sk next 2 sts, hdc in next st; rep from * to beg ch-sp, 2 hdc in beg ch-sp – 6 hdc, 3 ch-2 sps and 1 beg ch-sp.
    • Row 10: Ch 4 (does not count as a st), turn, 2 dc in first st, dc in each st and ch to beg ch-sp, dc in first 2 ch of beg ch-sp – 15 dc and 1 beg ch-sp.
    • Row 11: Rep Row 5 – 17 hdc.
    • Rows 12-77: Rep Rows 6-11 eleven more times – you will have 116 hdc at the end of Row 77.
    • Rows 78-80: Rep Rows 6-8 – 120 dc and 1 beg ch-sp.
    • Row 81: Rep Row 5 – 122 hdc.
    • Top Edging: Do not turn, rotate piece to work in ends of rows across long edge (top edge of Shawl), ch 1, work sc evenly spaced across edge by working 1 sc in end of each hdc row, 3 sc in end of each dc row, 2 sc in end of each hdc mesh row, and 4 sc in end of each dc mesh row.
    • Fasten off.

    • FINISHING:
    • Blocking
    • Dampen Shawl thoroughly. Spread a towel onto a flat surface, then lay Shawl onto towel and smooth into shape. Gently shape Shawl to match finished measurements. Use blocking wires if desired to further shape Shawl. Allow to air dry.

    • Weave in ends.
