DUCK® TAPE PLACEMATS

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Duck® brand duct tape, assorted colors
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape
  • Pen

DIRECTIONS:

1. Create 7 strips of Duck® brand duct tape fabric, each 21" in length. To create these, rip off one strip of Duck® brand duct tape 21" in length, lay it sticky side up on a flat surface. Rip off another piece 21" long and lay it sticky side down directly on top of the other strip. Trim off any excess and repeat 6 more times to create seven strips.
2. Create ten strips of Duck® brand duct tape fabric, each strip 15" in length. Refer to Step 1 to create.
3. Lay the seven longer strips horizontally in the shape of a rectangle.
4. Take one of the 15" strips and weave it vertically through the longer strips.
5. Continue to weave the 15" strips vertically through the longer strips, making sure to alternate weaving in and out.
6. Use double-sided tape to secure the edges and to keep everything in place.
7. There will be excess tape on all sides. Trim with scissors to create a perfect rectangle.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Duck® brand duct tape, assorted colors
  • Dowel rod
  • Scissors
  • Floral wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Pen

DIRECTIONS:

To make the flower center:
1. Cut a 6" piece of Duck® brand duct tape and then cut the piece of tape in half lengthwise.
2. Cut the two strips into squares.
3. Sticky side up, fold one edge over itself, leaving some stickiness on the side and bottom.
4. Take the opposite edge and fold it over, leaving only stickiness on the bottom of the strip. The square now has a point on top, instead of a straight edge.
5. Take that piece of Duck® brand duct tape and roll it around the top edge of a pen, creating the center of the flower.
6. Repeat Steps 1–5 to create the center of flower. About 22–30 squares are needed to create the center of the flower.

To make the flower petals:
7. Cut two pieces of Duck® brand duct tape approximately 10" long and place them sticky side down on flat surface.
8. Cut both pieces of tape in half horizontally and then cut the pieces of tape in half vertically.
9. Using wire cutters, cut a 3" piece of floral wire and place the wire toward the end of tape strip.
10. Fold the top of the tape over, leaving a small amount of the petal with the sticky side of the tape exposed.
11. Cut the folded side of the tape strip into a flower petal shape.
12. Take the petal and place the side with the adhesive showing on the dowel rod and wrap the edges around it.
13. Repeat Steps 9–12 for a total of 8 petals.

To make the stem:
14. Cut a piece of Duck® brand duct tape that is long enough to cover the dowel rod lengthwise.
15. Place the dowel rod on the outside edge of the Duck® brand duct tape and roll the dowel rod across to cover, making sure to slightly overlap the bottom of the petals for a clean edge. Repeat all steps to make more flowers. Place flowers in vase or pot to arrange.
