Easter Chick Cupcakes

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Wilton® food-crafting supplies
    • Roll-N-Cut Mat
    • 9" Fondant Roller (purple guide rings used)
    • Ready-To-Use Rolled Fondant Neon Colors Multi Pack: Yellow (3 oz. makes 10 to 12 treats), Orange (1/4 oz. makes 10 to 12 treats)
    • 12-Pc. Easter Mini Metal Cutters Set (tulip cutter used)
    • Easter Standard Baking Cups
    • Perfect ResultsTM Standard Muffin Pan
    • Mini Muffin Pan
    • 10"x16" Cooling Grid
    • White Ready-To-Use Decorator Icing — 4.5 lb. Tub
    • Icing Colors: Golden Yellow*, Lemon Yellow*, Black
    • 12” Disposable Decorating Bags
    • Decorating Tips: 2A, 3
    • 9" Angled Spatula
  • Knife
  • Plastic ruler
  • Favorite cupcake recipe or mix
  • Food-safe scissors

*Combine Golden Yellow with Lemon Yellow for yellow shown.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Make wings, beak and tuft of hair one day in advance. For wings, use fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out yellow fondant 1/8" thick. Use tulip cutter from set to cut shape. Cut off bottom 1/4" section of tulip shape. Taper in ends to a point.

    For hair, use yellow fondant to roll three mini logs, each 1/4" long. Shape one end of each log into a point.

    For beak, use fondant roller with purple guide rings to roll out orange fondant 1/8" thick. Cut a diamond shape, 3/4" tall x 1/2" wide. Bend to form beak. Allow all pieces to dry overnight.
  1. Make standard-size and mini cupcakes. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake standard size cupcakes in baking cups. Bake mini cupcakes without baking cups. Allow to cool completely.
  1. Make chicks. Tint portions of decorator icing yellow and black. Set a mini cupcake upside down in center of standard-sized cupcake. Use tip 2A, a cut disposable decorating bag and yellow icing to cover mini cupcake. Use spatula to ice smooth and create rounded head.
  1. Decorate features. Insert wings, spikey-edge out, into cupcake. Use decorator icing to attach beak, opening facing out, into front of cupcake. Insert hair into top of cupcake. Use tip 3, a cut disposable decorating bag and black icing to pipe dot eyes.

Project Tip: When baking cupcakes without baking cups, spray pan cavities with Wilton Bake Easy® non-stick spray to help your cupcakes release perfectly.

    • Decorator Preferred™ White Fondant (3 oz. makes 10 to 12 treats)
    • Icing Colors: Pink, Black
    • Roll-N-Cut Mat
    • 9" Fondant Roller
    • 12-Pc. Easter Mini Metal Cutters Set (egg cutter used)
    • Easter Standard Baking Cups
    • Standard Muffin Pan
    • Perfect Results™ Mini Muffin Pan
    • 10"x16" Cooling Grid
    • White Ready-To-Use Decorator Icing — 4.5 lb. Tub
    • Decorating Tips: 2A, 3 (two needed)
    • 12" Disposable Decorating Bags
    • 9" Angled Spatula
  • Favorite cupcake recipe or mix

  • Cornstarch

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Make ears one day in advance. Use fondant roller to roll out white fondant 1/4" thick. Use egg cutter from set to cut ear shape. Move egg cutter 1/4" to the left over the cut-out piece of fondant. Use egg cutter to cut fondant again for outer ear shape. Allow all pieces to dry overnight.
  2. Make standard-size and mini cupcakes. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake standard size cupcakes in baking cups. Bake mini cupcakes without baking cups. Allow to cool completely.
  3. Make bunny body. Tint small portions of decorator icing pink and black. Reserve majority white. Set a mini cupcake upside down in center of standard-sized cupcake. Use tip 2A, a cut disposable decorating bag and white icing to cover mini cupcake. Use spatula to ice smooth and create rounded head.
  4. Decorate features. Use tip 3, a cut disposable decorating bag and pink icing to pipe inner ear, dot nose and outline whiskers. Pat inner ear smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Insert ears into top of cupcake. Use tip 3, a cut disposable decorating bag and black icing to pipe dot eyes.

Project Tip: Serve your bunny cupcakes on a plate of edible grass! Place shredded coconut in a plastic bag, and tint using Wilton Kelly Green Icing.
