.Wash and press fabric.

.Measure from waist to desired length. Add 2-1/2" for hem and top seam. This is cut length for skirt.

.Fold fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together and matching selvages. With rotary cutter and ruler, straighten top width edge of fabric.

.Measure skirt cut length along selvages and cut across full width of fabric.

.Finish top edge of skirt fabric with serger or zig-zag stitch.

.Pin skirt sides, right sides together. Stitch with 5/8” seam allowance.

.Trim off 1/4” of selvage edge and finish seam allowance with serger or zig-zag stitch. Press to one side.

.Press bottom edge under 2” using hem gauge. Open hem and fold raw edge in to meet crease. Press again and pin hem. Edge-stitch near top fold of hem to secure.

.Measure waist and mark this measurement on elastic. Wrap around waist to determine if this is best fit. Make any necessary adjustments and cut elastic. Do not allow for overlap. Apply Fray Check to ends.

.Pin ends of elastic, right sides together and stitch with 1/2" seam. Open seam and zig-zag stitch both ends to elastic.

.Starting with seams, divide elastic and skirt into quarters and mark with marking pen or pins. Making additional marks between the quarters will make it easier to sew.

.Pin elastic to top edge of skirt, overlapping fabric by 1/2", and matching all marks.

.Using a medium zig-zag stitch, start at back seam of skirt and elastic. Take one or two stitches and keep needle down in fabric. Grip elastic firmly behind needle and at next pin. Stretch elastic to equal the fabric width between needle and pin. Stitch along edge of elastic while continuing to grip and stretch elastic. Keep the needle down and re-grip for next pin. Continue to stitch around full width of skirt.
