Description
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • 1/4 yd each, 7 home decor fabrics: corrugated patches
  • 3/4 yd home decor fabri: patch foundations
  • One 25"x33" rectangle of home decor fabric: backing & border
  • One 1/4"-wide dowel rod, cut to 8"
  • 2 bottles Fabri-Tac® adhesive
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron & ironing surface
DIRECTIONS: RS = Right side(s) WS = Wrong side(s) WOF= width of fabric
1. From patch foundation fabric, cut three 6"x WOF strips. From the strips, cut one 14" rectangle, twelve 10" rectangles and eight 6" squares.

2. From each corrugated patch fabric, cut two 4" strips.

3. Each patch is made as follows: On the RS of a patch foundation piece, lightly draw a line 1" in on each of the four sides. Place a 4" edge of a long corrugated patch strip along a short edge of the foundation piece, just covering the pencil line. Long strip of fabric should fit between top and bottom pencil lines. Stitch close to the 4" edge, securing stitching at beginning and end of stitching line with several backstitches. To stitch next row of stitches, place dowel rod under the long strip along previous stitching and roll dowel rod slightly to cover stitched line to form a fabric hill. Starting at top pencil line, stitch as before as close to dowel rod as possible, ending stitching line at pencil line. Backstitch at both beginning and end of stitching. Remove dowel rod. Continue across piece until both 4" pencil lines are covered. Use zipper foot to place stitching close to covered dowel rod.

4. Using the photo as reference for patch placement, glue patches together. Patches are glued together by folding under one edge and gluing fold to finish the patch edge. The finished edge is then glued to the adjacent patch by overlapping the finished edge onto the unfinished border of the other patch. Continue across rug, gluing finished patches onto unfinished patches.

5. On the WS of the backing/border piece, draw a line 1 1/2" in from each side. Press in edge 1/2" all around. Glue pieced patches (piece measures 20"x28") on to backing/border piece.

6. Bring backing edges to right side and glue in place to create a border. Miter corners. Finished size 22"x30".
