Reviews
Fiskars Self Healing Rotary Cutting Mat-24"X36" is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I clicked on the rating because I had to. I bought one of these 50% off at Joann's. I haven't used it yet. Because of my budget I am having to buy one to two pieces at a time. I have the sewing machine, mat, and just bought scissors and rotary cutter today. I want a few more pieces before I get real serious with sewing...the first being a good table. Anyways, I just wanted to mention that mine doesn't have a bad smell. It stays in my craft room day after day with the door closed and I have walked in and not smelled it at all. People saying it stinks is weird especially since my nose is SUPER sensitive and I detect bad or chemical smells so sensitively that other people say they don't smell anything. I just wanted to add my 2 cents about the smell.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good size but not durable! I bought this mat because I needed a bigger mat for my projects. I loved the idea that it is reversible - light side and dark side - for more contrast with fabric. I was happy with the price, also. But, after a very short period of cutting on the mat, I noticed the plastic lifting from the mat especially in the center where the pieces of plastic meet. I tried to glue the material down but that did not work. I turned it over to use the "good" side. But, soon after, pieces of the mat started coming off (mostly where I had used the rotary cutter several times). This mat is not forgiving like my other mats which are made by Olfa and June Tailor. I do not recommend this mat for use as an everyday, cut it all mat. It will not hold up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with my mat I use my mat for all my projects because I use my rotary cutter more than my scissors now. I helps my align things accurately, I love the self healing qualities and the grids on both sides. The size is good to put on top of a standard size table and is more than adequate for most sewing projects. It allows me to cut true squares, true bias, and accurate measuring every time. Mine doesn't smell and never did.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from causes cancer ah...NO In the state of California, any item made from this material (and several other plastic based materials) HAS TO HAVE THAT WARNING! When you walk through a hospital door, manufacturing facility, anyplace that deals with electronics will ALL have the same warning. Heck, Your car is more of a threat!!! This mat DOES NOT SMELL and is as SAFE as any and ALL of the other mats. So….everybody just …..chill… :>) Merry Christmas!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this cutting mat I purchased this for my crafting table in large part because of the size and the lines. I am totally in love. Will be ditching my other cutting mats for more Fiskars after buying and using this one. The lines make cutting perfect corners easy and it handles everything I've thrown at it -- not just rotary cutters but also box cutters, craft knives and the fact that I forgot to protect it from my hot glue gun dripping on it. The dried glue peeled right off it when I oops that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I have only used this mat a few times but so far I love it! It is easy to use due to it's large cutting surface and doesn't leave any cut marks like my other mats do. I wish I would have obtained this mat sooner, it would have made many of my other projects simpler to execute.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't Hold Up! This mat does not hold up for repeated use. For someone who uses it on occasion it is a good buy. But I sew for a living and thought I would try this one as Olfa eventually wears out, but it takes more time. I have had this one 6 months and while cutting you can hear it splitting. Also it stops healing, grabs your fabric where you are cutting and I had to pull it out of the grooves and it frayed (satin). I actually prefer the mat over Olfa because it has the marking on both sides. My previous Olfa ones had plain on the opposite side and I use the ruler grids all the time. But this mat for repeated use does not last. It actually dulls my blades as it wears out and in the long run it costs more because you have to replace it more often. Other than the markings on the back of the Olfa, save your money and buy an Olfa when they go on sale. For a sewer who uses it occasionally, it should last a long time. For someone who uses it daily, get the Olfa. There really is a difference. For the cost of blade replacements along with the mat wearing out in 6 months of daily use, the healing qualities not as good and the splitting as it ages, this great price is not great. Or, just be prepared to replace it in 6 months and get some extra blades. This mat is not beneficial to me unless they changed it. When I got this one, it did not smell. Judging from the other reviews, they may have changed the formula. Because the self healing mats all stink for a while (eventually goes away). Just be aware it is not as good as the Olfa. Neither is Ghinger (tried that one too).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Mine I've had mine over a year and still love it. I use it for a small sewing business, and it still is in great shape. I've warped it slightly with an iron, but that's my fault. I've never noticed an odor. (this is a fiskers mat, not olfa).
