PIN CUSHION PUMPKIN

Supplies & Tools:

  • 10" Funkins® Carvable Pumpkin
  • Painters® medium paint markers:
  • bright green & bright red
  • Painters® silver paint marker
  • 4 Loew-Cornell® craft picks
  • 4 lollipop sticks
  • 9"x12" pirate green felt
  • Craft knife
  • Elmer's® CraftBond® tacky glue
  • 7mm pompoms
  • Large red sparkle pompom
  • 2 yds green yarn
  • Thread: assorted colors
  • Pen & paper for pattern
  • Scissors
  • Needles: large-eye & medium-eye

DIRECTIONS:
1. Paint pumpkin stem bright green. Paint pumpkin bright red.
2. Cut three 24" stands of yarn. Divide pumpkin into 6 sections. Glue yarn end to top. Bring strand to the bottom & glue, then up the opposite side to the top & glue. Repeat with other strands.
3. Trace leaf patterns on paper. Fold felt in half; place large leaf pattern on fold; trace. Cut out leaf. Adhere leaf; leave 1 side unglued.
4. Cut 8" strand of yarn. Use large-eye needle to attach strand to loose side of leaf; glue side in place.
5. Place small leaf pattern on felt; cut out. Trim sparkles on large pompom to look like a strawberry. Thread the other end of the 8" strand of yarn through the small leaf & pompom. Knot end of the thread; pull it up into the pompom. Glue small leaf to the pompom.
6. To craft the needle, paint craft sticks silver. Allow to dry. Carve a small hole in top of each stick to create the eye of the needle. Thread with sewing thread.
7. To craft the pins, paint lollipop sticks silver. Allow to dry. Glue small pompom to the top of each stick.
8. Make small holes in the pumpkin for pins & needles. Add glue to ends of pins & needles & insert.

  • DecoArt® Americana® paints: Sour Apple, Lamp Black, Peony Pink, Titanium White
  • 2" sponge brushes
  • #3 round paintbrush

DIRECTIONS:
1. Pinch off 3 balls of Model Magic®. Roll 1 for nose. Shape others into ears. Position & adhere to pumpkin.
2. Use sponge brush to paint pumpkin, ears & nose Sour Apple.
3. Mix small amount of Peony Pink into Sour Apple. Lightly brush on cheeks & nose.
4. Trace & transfer mouth & tooth.
5. Paint tooth Titanium White. Paint mouth & stitches Lamp Black.
6. Position & adhere wiggle eyes.
7. Wrap & adhere boa in circles to form hair; begin with the stem & work out.

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Duck® tape, 1 roll ea: black, white, red
  • Styrofoam® brand foam ball
  • 2 wiggle eyes
  • 8 black chenille stems
  • Double-sided tape
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:
1. To craft the head, cover the foam ball with black Duck® Tape.
Use small pieces of overlapping tape, flattened & smoothed.
2. Cut 2 eye-shaped pieces of white tape, in proportion to the foam ball. Adhere to front of head. Use double-sided tape to adhere the wiggle eyes.
3. Cut a crescent mouth from 3" of white tape; attach to head. To craft the tongue, use a small half-circle of red tape and attach to mouth.
4. Cover a Funkins® pumpkin with black Duck® tape.
5. Attach black chenille stems to body, with a small strip of black tape, for legs.
Bend out so it looks like the spider is walking.
6. Attach head to body with double-sided tape. Cover the stem with black tape.
7. For a hairy spider, fold 3" strips of black Duck® tape in the middle, leaving 2 sticky edges on the bottom of the tape. Attach the pieces to the Funkins® pumpkin; trim each piece to create hair.
8. Add stripes & polka dots with other colors of tape, if desired.

    yellow, black, white & red
  • Styrofoam® brand foam ball
  • 2 wiggle eyes
  • 8 black chenille stems
  • 2 clear cellophane bags
  • Double-sided tape
  • Pencil or thin dowel rod
  • Quarter
  • Scissor

DIRECTIONS

1. To make the head, cover foam ball with yellow tape. Flatten & smooth small pieces of overlapping tape.
2. Cut 2 eye-shaped pieces of white tape, in proportion to the foam ball. Adhere to front of head.
Use double-sided tape to adhere wiggle eyes.
3. Use quarter for a nose pattern. Cut circle out of black tape; affix to head.
4. To craft the antennae, shape 2 black chenille stems, spiraling ends to size and look, while leaving a
portion straight. Stick antennae into the top of the head.
5. For the body, cover pumpkin with yellow tape. Add the stripes with black tape.
6. For the stinger, cover the Funkins® pumpkin stem with red tape. Twist excess tape to form the point.
7. Cut 2 clear cellophane bags in the shape of a wing. Outline the edge of each on both sides with black
tape. Trim excess, following curves of the wing. Trim bottom edge of each wing; insert black chenille stem.
Adhere the wings to top of body with matching tape. Shape the angle of the wing.
8. Attach head to the body with double-sided tape.
9. Cut a pencil or dowel rod to size & make 2 legs. Cover each leg with black tape; wrap a
black chenille stem around it, spiraling the leftover chenille stem at the bottom to create a foot.
Attach each leg to the front of the bee with black tape.

  • Deco Art® Americana paint: sour apple,
  • light cinnamon
  • Darice® green chenille stems
  • 9"x12" felt: dark green, brown
  • Low-temp glue gun, glue sticks
  • Paintbrushes
  • Scissors
  • Craft stick, pencil

DIRECTIONS
1. For the head, glue a 4" foam ball into the bottom hole of the Funkins® pumpkin. The stem is the tail.
2. For feet, cut two 4" foam balls in half. Use the edge of a craft stick to press grooves for toes. Use the edge of a pencil to widen the grooves. Roll pumpkin on its side; tail pointing slightly downward. Angle-cut each foot to tuck slightly under the edge of the pumpkin with the toes pointing out. Glue feet in place, 1" apart.
3. Paint body green. Allow to dry. Paint brown spots on feet & cheeks. Paint claws & tail brown; allow to dry.
4. Glue wiggle eyes to the face 1/2" apart. Cut 5" of chenille stem. Shape a smile & glue onto the face.
5. Cut a large oblong felt oval for the shell. Center & cut 3" slit at either end. Glue a pleat, overlapping
edges of the slit slightly, to form the shell. Glue shell to the back. Cut small brown felt spots for the shell.

  • Paper mache box: round or square
  • Large craft foam sheets: brown, black, white
  • Small craft foam sheet, yellow
  • Crayola® Model Magic®
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Tracing & transfer paper
  • 12" black grosgrain ribbon
  • Ruler
  • Craft knife
  • Low-temp glue gun, glue sticks
  • DecoArt® Americana paints: Lt. Cinnamon, Lamp Black, Flesh Tone, Peony Pink
  • Sponge brushes: 2" & 1"
  • #3 round paintbrush
  • Stapler, staples

DIRECTIONS:
1. Use ruler & craft knife to cut foam:
Brown: 7"x17" rectangle
51/4" & 11" circles
Black: 11/4"x 17" strip
Yellow: 21/4" square
White: 10" square
2. Use 2" sponge brush to paint Funkins® pumpkin Flesh Tone & the box Light Cinnamon. Allow to dry.
3. Use 1" sponge brush to loosely paint hair Lamp Black. Allow to dry.
4. Mix small amount of Peony Pink into Flesh tone. Lightly brush on cheeks.
5. Trace & transfer mouth & tongue. Paint tongue Peony Pink. Paint mouth & outline tongue Lamp Black.
6. Roll small ball of Model Magic® for nose. Apply glue on ball; press onto face. Paint nose Flesh Tone.
7. Roll 17" brown foam into a tube to fit 5 1/4" circle. Secure with staples. Position 51/4" circle at end of tube; glue.
Position & adhere 11" circle at other end to form a hat. Position & adhere hat band & buckle.
8. Cut V-Shape in white foam. Position and adhere to box top. Adhere eyes on face and hat on head.
Position head; adhere. Tie ribbon bow; adhere to the collar.

  • White chalk

DIRECTIONS: Refer to photo.
Allow paint to dry between each application.

1. Use white chalk to draw basic shapes onto the pumpkin.
2. Start flow of Scribbles® paint on a paper towel. Use even pressure for a smooth line. Keep tip of bottle clean by wiping with a paper towel.
3. Fill in basic shapes with all colors of dimensional paint.
4. Add second layer of design & detail. Add dots & finer details.
5. Squeeze a puddle of green paint on foil. Paint stem green. Apply second coat.
