Fur Chair Back Cover

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd. Fun Fur
  • Bosal® Foam sew-in stabilizer
  • Kid's chair
  • Construction paper
  • Spray adhesive (permanent)
  • Liquid Stitch (permanent)
Seam allowance 1/2"

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Measure the width and the height of the chair back from side to side (measure at the widest point). Measure the width of the side of the chair. Add the chair back width measurement to the side width measurement and add 1" for seam allowance.
  2. Draw a rectangle using your width measurement on the paper. Measure and mark the center top of the rectangle. Measure and mark 8" up (vertically) from the center mark. Draw lines from the center mark down to each of the top corners of the rectangle.
  3. Cut out the pattern and lay it on the back of the fabric with the fur facing down. Pin the pattern in place and using a marker trace the shape.
  4. Cut two pattern pieces from the fur and one from the Bosal Foam.
  5. Spray the spray adhesive on the back side of one of the fur pattern pieces and hand press the Bosal Foam in place onto the back side of the fur.
  6. Glue both side of the fur together 1/2" (seam allowance) in on each side; leave the center and bottom open, allow to dry overnight before placing on the chair back.

Tips for working with fun fur:
  • The nap should be going in the same direction on all pattern pieces.
  • Do all tracing and marking on the wrong side of the fabric.
  • Cut out one pattern piece at a time.
  • Cut only the backing and not the fun fur pile. With the wrong side of the fabric facing up, slide the scissors into backing. Cut just the backing if you feel a drag you're cutting the nap. Back off and start again (practice cutting on a scrap to get the feel for it).

Fur Cube

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd. Fun Fur
  • Poly-fil stuffing
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine
Finished Size: 9" square cub
Seam allowance 1/2"

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut two 10" square pattern pieces of fur for the top and bottom.
  2. Cut one 37" x 10" pattern piece of fur for the sides.
  3. Sew the side pattern piece together to form a large tube, leave 1/2" unsewn at top & bottom.
  4. Sew the top pattern piece to the tube (line up the seam of the tub with a corner of the top pattern piece and pin in place to form a square cube).
  5. Sew the bottom piece on leaving a 5" opening for stuffing, clip corners and turn right side out (line up the seam of the tub with a corner of the bottom pattern piece and pin in place).
  6. Stuff the cube with poly-fil and stitch the opening closed.

Tips for working with fun fur:
  • The nap should be going in the same direction on all pattern pieces.
  • Do all tracing and marking on the wrong side of the fabric.
  • Cut out one pattern piece at a time.
  • Cut only the backing and not the fur pile. With the wrong side of the fabric facing up, slide the scissors into backing. Cut just the backing if you feel a drag you're cutting the nap. Back off and start again (practice cutting on a scrap of fabric to get the feel for it).
  • Tuck the fur to the inside as it is pinned.
  • Choose a longer stitch length.
