Gertie Sews Vintage Casual is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice addition to a vintage sewing library This book has become one of my favorite sewing resources! Along with a nice collection of vintage-inspired casual wardrobe patterns, the book includes some really helpful information on sewing with knits, and also basic fitting tips for trousers. The illustrations are lovely and the text is friendly and informative. There are some interesting short articles on the history of American sportswear, as well. Though "Vintage Casual" may seem less exciting than Gertie's first book, without all of the pretty party dresses and fancy fabrics, I've actually sewn more things from this one. The patterns are great basic wardrobe pieces that fit easily into my lifestyle, while still corresponding with the vintage aesthetic I like. The patterns have limited ease, so the fit is true to how women wore their clothing at the time. Nothing is baggy or sloppy - everything is well-fitted, yet comfortable. I'd highly recommend this book to seamstresses who love styles from the 1940s-60s, but don't have much use for fancy party dresses (no matter how pretty they may be!). This book has clothes you'll actually wear on a daily basis.
