MEASUREMENTS

Hat: One size to fit average adult

Scarf: Approx 6 x 60” excluding fringe.

 

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

Bernat® Collegiate Chunky™ (400g/14 oz; 431 yds/394 m)

Hat      Scarf   Set

Contrast A Royal Blue/Yellow                                             1          1          1          ball     

Contrast B Royal Blue                                                          1          1          1          ball

Contrast C Gold                                                                    1          1          2          balls

 

Scarf: Set of 4 size U.S. 11 double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Stitch marker.

Optional: 1 ball of White for duplicate st slogan.

 

Hat: Set of 4 sizes U.S. 10½”  and U.S. 11 double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Stitch marker.

 

GAUGE

 

11 sts and 14 rows = 4” with larger needles in stocking st.

DIRECTIONS:

SCARF

 

Stripe Pat

With B: 14 rnds.

With C: 14 rnds.

These 28 rnds form Stripe Pat.

 

With B, cast on 33 sts. Divide sts on 3 double-pointed needles and join in rnd placing a marker at first st.

Working in Stripe Pat, knit in rnds until Scarf from beg measures approx 64” ending on 28th rnd of Stripe Pat.

Cast off.

 

Optional text: With white yarn and duplicate stitch, stitch slogan of choice across Scarf following Scarf Chart, noting letters will be worked sideways. Tip: Insert piece of cardboard between layers of knitting to prevent catching during embroidery.

 

Finishing

Sew ends of Scarf closed.

 

Fringe: Cut lengths of A 12” long. Knot into fringe at either end of

 

HAT

With smaller set of needles and A, cast on 56 sts. Divide sts on 3 double-pointed needles and join in rnd, placing a marker at first st.

1st rnd: *K2. P2. Rep from * around.

Rep last rnd (K2. P2) ribbing for 5”.

Change to larger needles.

Next rnd: Knit. Break A.

With B, knit 8 rnds.

With C, 8 rnds. Break C.

With B, knit 2 rnds.

 

Shape top: 1st rnd: With B, *ssk. K10. K2tog. Rep from * around. 48 sts.

2nd and alt rnds: Knit.

3rd rnd: *ssk. K8. K2tog. Rep from * around. 40 sts.

5th rnd: *ssk. K6. K2tog. Rep from * around. 32 sts.

7th rnd: *ssk. K4. K2tog. Rep from * around. 24 sts.

9th rnd: *ssk. K2. K2tog. Rep from * around. 16 sts.

10th rnd: *K2tog. Rep from * around.

Break yarn leaving a long end. Thread end through rem 8 sts. Draw up

and fasten securely.

 

Pompom: Holding one strand of A, B and C tog, wind yarn around 4 fingers approx 30 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut through each side of loops.Trim to a smooth round shape. Sew pompom to top of Hat.

 

Optional: Using white yarn and duplicate stitch, stitch slogan of choice around C stripe of Hat following Hat Chart.
