SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Caron® Simply Soft® Yarn:
    7 skeins Vanilla (A)
    1 skein each: Strawberry (B), Melon (C) Lemon (D), Blackberry (F)
    2 skeins Pistachio (E)
  • Crochet hook size H-8, or size to obtain gauge
  • Crochet hook size G-6 (for flowers only)
  • Yarn needle GAUGE: In double crochet, 15 sts and 7 rows = 4"

DIRECTIONS: Blanket is worked in 3 panels, each made from 7 granny squares sewn together.
To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yo; yo with new color & draw through all loops on hook. Fasten off old color. Proceed with new color.

GRANNY SQUARES: Make 21, three in each color sequence.
Square 1: Work Rnd 1 with F, Rnd 2 with D, Rnd 3 with B, Rnds 4 and 5 with A.
Square 2: Work Rnd 1 with B, Rnd 2 with E, Rnd 3 with C, Rnds 4 and 5 with A.
Square 3: Work Rnd 1 with E, Rnd 2 with C, Rnd 3 with F, Rnds 4 and 5 with A.
Square 4: Work Rnd 1 with D, Rnd 2 with B, Rnd 3 with E, Rnds 4 and 5 with A.
Square 5: Work Rnd 1 with C, Rnd 2 with F, Rnd 3 with D, Rnds 4 and 5 with A.
Square 6: Work Rnd 1 with E, Rnd 2 with D, Rnd 3 with B, Rnds 4 and 5 with A.
Square 7: Work Rnd 1 with F, Rnd 2 with E, Rnd 3 with C, Rnds 4 and 5 with A.

With larger hook and first color, ch 6; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, [3 dc in ring, ch 2] 3 times; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—Four 3-dc groups and four ch-2 sp. Fasten off.
Join 2nd color with sl st in any ch-2 sp.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp (corner made), *ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp (corner made), ch 1; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—4 corners. Fasten off. Join 3rd color with sl st in any ch-2 sp.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—4 corners and one 3-dc group on each side of square. Fasten off.
Join 4th color with sl st in any ch-2 sp.

Rnds 4 & 5: Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, ch 1, [3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] across to next corner ch-2 sp, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, [3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1] across to next corner ch-2 sp; repeat from * around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off.

Arrange granny squares into 3 panels & sew together, in the following order. 1st square listed is the top of each panel.
Panel 1: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Panel 2: 6, 7, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Panel 3: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 1, 2

PANEL BORDER: With RS facing and larger hook, join A with sl st in any corner ch-2 sp of one panel.
Rnds 2 and 3: Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-2 sp, ch 1, [3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 1] across to next corner ch-2 sp of panel, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, [3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 1] across to next corner ch-2 sp of panel; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off. Rep border around other two panels.

PANEL SIDE EDGING: With RS facing & larger hook, join A with sl st in any corner ch-2 sp of panel, work across long side.
Row 1: Ch 2, working across long side edge, hdc in each dc and ch across to next corner ch-2 sp, turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc across, turn.
Rows 3 & 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Fasten off. Rep edging across other long side edge.
Rep edging across long sides of other two panels.

FLOWER: Make 10, two each with B and C; three each with D and F Leaving a long beginning tail for sewing, ch 3.
Rnd 1: Work (2 dc, ch 2, sl st) in 3rd ch from hook (first petal made), *ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, sl st) in same ch (petal made); rep from * 3 more times—5 petals. Fasten off.
Arrange panels in order, with long sides together and all top squares at same end. Sew long edges together.

BLANKET SIDE EDGING: With RS facing & larger hook, join E with sl st in corner of blanket, to work across a long side.
Row 1: Ch 3, sk first st, *X-st over next 2 sts; rep from * across, dc in last st and change to A, turn.
Rows 2 & 3: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.

BLANKET BORDER: With RS facing and larger hook, join A with sl st in corner of blanket.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 4 dc in corner, sk next st, sc in next st, sk next st, [3 dc in next st, sk next st, sc in next st, sk next st] to next corner, *5 dc in corner, sk next st, sc in next st, sk next st, [3 dc in next st, sk next st, sc in next st, sk next st] to next corner; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch. Sk more or fewer sts to ensure that 5 dc is worked in each corner. Fasten off.

FLOWERS & VINES: Arrange flowers evenly spaced across edgings between panels.
Sew in place, in order from top to lower edge:
Between Panels 1 & 2: flowers in colors F, D, B, F, D.

Between Panels 2 & 3: flowers in colors C, B, F, D, C.
With E, embroider straight stitch vines extending from each side of each flower. Use photo as a guide. With E, embroider leaves randomly arranged on both sides of vines. To embroider a leaf, sew one straight st, then sew more straight sts, inserting the needle into the same place as the first straight st, guiding sts to lie on either side of the first st. Weave in all ends.
