  • 3/4 yd fabric for binding
  • 4 yds fabric for backing
  • 60"x76" batting
  • Sewing machine, basic sewing, quilting supplies
  • Iron, pressing surface

DIRECTIONS: Refer to photo. Use 1/4" seam allowance throughout. WOF = Width of Fabric. RS = Right side(s). WS = Wrong side(s).
1. From each of the 5 fabrics, cut two 12 1/2"xWOF strips. Subcut each strip into 8 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles for a total of 45 rectangles.

2. Lay out the rectangles. Each column is stitched with the 8 1/2" ends together. Odd columns consist of 2 rectangles. Even columns are stitched with five 8 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles & an 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangle at each end. Arrange larger rectangles, then cut the top and bottom rectangles as needed. Stitch short sides of rectangles together to make a column. Make 4 columns of six 8 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles and 3 columns of two 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles and five 8 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles.

3. Stitch columns together.

4. Piece backing as needed for a 60"x76" rectangle.

5. Layer quilt top, batting and backing. Quilt as desired.

6. Cut seven 2 3/4" x WOF strips from binding fabric. Stitch short ends together. Fold WS together & long sides even. Press. With raw edges even, stitch binding to quilted piece. Turn binding to WS and whip stitch in place.
