SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 skein Bernat® Baby™ Yarn:
  • Baby Blue
  • Crochet hook size D/3 [3.25 mm] or size for gauge
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Yarn needle

GAUGE: 18 sts & 14 rows = 4" [10 cm] in pattern.

DIRECTIONS:

    • Written for smaller size. Changes for larger size in ( ). Ch 3 at beg of rows counts as dc throughout.
    • Bonnet:
    • Ch 62 (66).
    • Row 1: (RS). 1 HBdc in 4th ch from hook (skipped ch-3 counts as dc). 1 HBdc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 60 (64) sts.
    • Row 2: Ch 3. 1 HBdc in each HBdc to end of row. Turn.
    • Rep last row until work from beg measures 4½ (5)" [11.5 (12.5) cm]; end on a WS row. Fasten off.
    • Shape Back Head
    • With RS facing, join yarn with sl st to 21st (23rd) st of last row.
    • Row 1: (RS). Ch 3. 1 HBdc in each of next 17 (19) sts. Turn, leaving rem sts unworked. 18 (20) sts.
    • Row 2: Ch 3. 1 HBdc in each st to end of row. Turn.
    • Row 3: Ch 3. HBdc2tog. 1 HBdc in each st to last 3 sts. HBdc2tog. 1 HBdc in last HBdc. Turn.
    • Rep last row 5 times more. 6 (8) sts.
    • Next row: (RS). Ch 3. 1 HBdc in each st to end of row. Turn.
    • Rep last row until Back measures 4½ (5)" [11.5 (12.5) cm], ending on a WS row. Fasten off.

    • FINISHING: Sew sides of Back Head to last row of Hat.
    • Edging & ties: With RS facing, join yarn with sl st to center back edge of Bonnet.
    • Rnd 1: Ch 1. Work sc evenly along bottom edge to first corner. Ch 29 for Tie. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Work sc evenly across face opening to next corner. Ch 29 for Tie. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Work sc evenly along rem bottom edge. Join with sl st to first sc.
    • Rnd 2: Ch 1. Work sc evenly around, working around both sides of Ties, having 3 sc at each end of tie. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
