Although the assembly instructions were a bit unclear in a couple of places, the overall product exceeded my expections. Its a great addition to my sewing room. Gives me lots of extra storage and the ability to sew free arm or table top is great for my quilting needs.
I'm not the least bit bothered by pressboard and plastic... my only complaint about this cabinet, which is a perfectly good value for the price, is that it does not provide an in front of needle sewing position. Even with my machine pushed over as far to the right as it will go, I'm still having to sit with my left leg pressed hard against the inside wall in order to be as close to properly aligned with the needle as I can get. Since I sew several hours a day, this one ergonomic problem is significant to me. Otherwise, it's a decent cabinet. But I'm hoping in the future to replace it with one of more expensive ones that will allow for sitting directly in front of the needle, as all sewing cabinets should allow.
I love the table & the parts are well made & sturdy, but there is a big problem with the directions. The items weren't marked, the directions were poorly written & looked like copies of a copy. After I put the casters on I tried to turn the table right side up as indicated in the directions and ended up cracking one of the wooden panels. The directions said "push or tap into place". I should have driven them in with a rubber mallet.I wish Joann's would write a new manual with color photos like the newer quilting books have. PS there are more ratings on the other styles of this same table.
I was not sure what to expect when reading previous reviews but I am very happy with my cabinet. First of all the drawer bottoms are pressed board and not cardboard. Once assembled the drawers seem to be quite sturdy. Assembly was easy. I really like the airlift. I think I have the cabinet I have been needing for a long time.
I'm out shopping for a new cabinet for my daughter. This is the same cabinet that I bought for myself 5 years ago. Other than the fact that the drawers don't have a stop on them I've had not problem--I thought the plastic drawers were nice becuase they never snagged any fabric or threads. After 5 years my cabinet still looks great and I love the airlift--either my machine is getting heavier or I'm gettin older, so the airlift is really appreciated.
In spite of cardboard and plastic drawers, this is a well built cabinet. I also own a far more expensive cabinet that lacks some of the Homestead's features: extra deep sewing top surface, very strong and well fitted flatbed insert and easy to adjust lift mechanism. This cabinet arrived quickly and was easy to put together. I like the built in storage well to the right of the machine and the bins in the door. Just put some divider bins in the cardboard drawers and this cabinet will help you sew better for a long time!
The drawers in this cabinet are made of snap-together plastic, with CARDBOARD bottoms! Yes, that's right - cardboard. The laminate is also not very thick. In time I could imagine this getting stray scratches from my scissors. And if you want to return, you must disassemble it, and take a $150 hit in shipping and re-stocking fees.
