SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • ¼ yd Fabric or 1 Fat Quarter for Tote
  • ¼ yd Fabric or 1 Fat Quarter for Lining
  • 3/8 yd Fabric or 1 Fat Quarter for Pocket
  • ¼ yd Interfacing (optional)
  • Disappearing Fabric Marker
  • Matching Thread
  • Iron and ironing surface
  • Basic Sewing Supplies

Finished size: 8" tall and 6" in diameter.

 

DIRECTIONS:

Use ¼” seam allowance

  1. Cut - (1) 8 ½” x 20” for tote and (1) 4” x 10” for handle

         (1) 8 ½” x 20” for lining and (1) 6 ½” circle for bottom   

         (1) 10 ½” x 20” for pocket and (1) 6 ½” circle for bottom

         Optional - (1) 8 ½” x 20” interfacing and (1) 6 ½” circle for bottom

  1. With RST, fold pocket in half lengthwise; press.
  2. Use marker to draw stitching lines onto pocket front every 1” – 4” as desired.
  3. Optional: pin or baste interfacing to WS of tote and bottom circle.
  4. Pin or baste pocket to bottom edge of tote.
  5. Stitch pocket to tote along all lines.
  6. Sew a basting line ¼” along bottom edge; clip every ¼” up to stitch line.
  7. With RST, stitch side seam.
  8. Divide and mark tote top and bottom and the bottom circle into fourths.
  9. With RST, match marks and stitch bottom circle to tote bottom; clip curves.
  10. Fold handle in half lengthwise; press; open and fold edges to center; press.
  11. Edge stitch both sides of handle.
  12. Pin or baste handle to top sides over mark.
  13. Stitch lining side together, leaving an opening for turning.
  14. Divide and mark lining as above.
  15. Match bottom marks to circle and sew.
  16. With RST, stitch lining top to tote top.
  17. Turn RS out through opening; press.
  18. Edge stitch top edge.
  19. Slip stitch opening closed.
