· Lion Brand® stitch holders
· Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle
· Tape measure
· Circular knitting needle size 8 (5 mm), 16 in. (40.5 cm) long
· Circular knitting needle size 10 (6 mm), 29 in. (73.5 cm) long
14 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) with larger needle over Mistake st rib worked in rnds.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
K2, p2 Rib worked in rnds (worked over a multiple of 4 sts)
Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep Rnd 1 for K2, p2 Rib worked in rnds.
Mistake St Rib worked in rnds (worked over a multiple of 4 sts)
Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around.
Rnd 2: P1, *k2, p2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k2, p1.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 for Mistake st Rib worked in rnds.
Knit Cast On *Insert right needle in next st on left needle; wrap yarn and pull through (as if knitting a st); transfer new st to left needle; rep from * for desired number of sts.
- Poncho is worked in one piece in the round in Mistake st rib pattern.
- Yarn colors are changed to create stripes.
- Cuffs are worked separately, then joined to Poncho as you work.
Cuffs (make 2)
With smaller circular needle and A, cast on 54 sts. Work back and forth in rows on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
Row 1 (RS): K3, *p2, k2; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, k1.
Row 2: P1, *k2, p2; rep from * to last st, p1.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for K2, p2 rib until piece measures 2 in. (5 cm), end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Cut yarn and slip sts to a st holder.
With larger circular needle and A, cast on 86 sts; from RS, work in K2, p2 rib across 54 sts of one Cuff, using knit cast on, cast on 86 sts; from RS, work in K2, p2 rib across 54 sts of second Cuff – 280 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd and join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle being careful not to twist sts.
Beginning with Rnd 1, work in Mistake st rib worked in rnds until piece measures about 3 1/2 in. (9 cm) from beg.
Cut A and join B.
With B, continue in Mistake st rib, until B color section measures about 3 1/2 in. (9 cm).
Continue as established changing yarn color to work 3 1/2 in. (9 cm) each with yarn colors C, D and E; piece will measure about 17 1/2 in. (44.5 cm) from beg.
Cut E and join A.
Next Rnd (Decrease): With A, (k2tog) around – you will have 140 sts at the end of this rnd.
Work in K2, p2 rib worked in rnds for 2 in. (5 cm).
Divide for Front Slit
Dividing Row: Remove beg of rnd marker. Work in K2, p2 rib as established over 21 sts, then turn to work back and forth in rows on circular needle.
Row 1 (WS): Sl 1, *k2, p2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 2: Sl 1, *p2, k2; rep from * to last 3 sts, p3.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures about 2 1/2 in. (6.5 cm) from dividing row, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Next Row (RS): Sl 1, k2tog, *p2, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1.
Next Row: Sl 1, k the knit sts and p the purl sts across.
Rep last row until piece measures about 3 in. (7.5 cm) from dividing row.
Bind off tightly in rib.
Seam side edges of each Cuff.
Weave in ends.
