SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Big Shot™ or Vagabond™ Machine
  • Sizzix® Bigz™ Dies - Tattered Flowers by Tim Holtz®
  • DCWV® 12"x12" Patterned Paper Pad, My Sunshine
  • Hot glue
  • Ribbon
  • Assortment of inks and/or chalks

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Create a card base using a light toned patterned paper from the paper pad. To do this, cut the paper down to 10"x7-1/2" and fold it in half to create a card that measures 5"x7-1/2".
  2. From a darker patterned paper, cut a mat measuring 4-3/4"x7-1/4" and adhere it to the card base, leaving a 1/8" border around it.
  3. Cut another mat measuring 4-1/4"x6-3/4" from a lighter toned paper and adhere it to the darker mat, leaving a 1/4" border around it. At this point, there will be a card base with two progressively smaller mats adhered to it. If desired, draw a border around the inside edge of the top mat as pictured. This border does not need to be perfect; it is meant to look hand drawn. Retain scrap pieces from the card base pieces to create a layered mat for the sentiment later.
  4. Die-cut four flowers from coordinating patterned papers, using the second-to-smallest flower on the Tattered Flowers die. If inking the edges is desired, do that before removing the center.
  5. Stack the four flowers together and place the stack upside-down over the smallest flower on the Tattered Flowers die (they do not need to be perfectly centered – they will actually look better if slightly offset) and die-cut. There will now be four flowers resembling hibiscus flowers. If desired, draw a border around the petals at this stage and set the flowers aside.
  6. To create the stamen, use the hot glue gun to “draw” a curved line of glue (approximately 1-1/2" long) onto a non-stick, heatproof surface. Dot the top of the line with a small bead of glue and add four additional dots of glue (two on each side) to the upper portion of the stamen. Make four of these. Once cooled, brush each stamen with Perfect Pearls or a similar product.
  7. Adhere three of the flowers in a cluster on the lower left corner of the card. Use dimensional adhesive for a 3-D effect. Adhere the remaining flower to the top right corner of the card.
  8. Using an adhesive for slick surfaces, adhere the stamen to the flowers.
  9. Create a sentiment on a computer or using a desired stamp. Once the sentiment has been trimmed down, create a layered mat using the scraps from the card base pieces. Adhere the sentiment to the mat and adhere the finished sentiment to the card. If desired, finish the card with a small bow attached to the bottom right of the sentiment.
