SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Large size tote: 1 yd fabric
- Medium: 1/2 yd fabric
- Clutch: 1/4 yd fabric
- Basic sewing supplies
- Sewing machine
- Iron
DIRECTIONS:
- For large tote: cut four 20"x 20" squares and two 21"x 3" rectangles (1/2" seam allowance included).
- Sew bottom sides of two squares, right sides together. Repeat with other two squares. This seam will be the bottom of the bag.
- Sew other two sides together to create long sides of bag. Leave a small opening in one side of a bag, this one will be the lining.
- At the bottom of each bag, line bottom and side seam together from the inside and create a point. Sew a straight line 2 1/2" from point and perpendicular to seam to create a fold.
- With right sides together, sew the seams together at top and turn entire piece right-sides out with lining sitting inside of bag. Topstitch 1/4" around top of bag. Sew closed small opening in lining. Create straps by sewing each longer rectangle in half, long sides together. Turn tubes right-side out and topstitch 1/4" down each long edge.
- Place each strap 3" from the side seam of each bag, and 1" down from the top edge. Stitch 1/2" from unfinished edge of strap, then turn strap toward top of bag and edge stitch around strap to keep in place.
- For medium tote: cut two 15"x 13" rectangles and two 21"x 2" rectangles (1/2" seam allowance included).
- For medium tote, sew around three sides of rectangles right-sides together. Turn piece right-side out. Fold over top edge of tote 1/4" and 1/4" again and create a small hem along top edge of tote.
- Top stitch 1/4" around closed edges of tote.
- Create strap by sewing each long rectangle in half, long-sides together. Turn each tube right-side out and place 1" over from each side seam. Sew 1/2" from each raw edge of tube, then, with strap facing open end of bag, edge stitch around top of strap.
- For clutch: cut two 14"x 9" rectangles (1/4" seam allowance included).
- Sew both rectangles right-sides together, leaving a small hole for turning.
- Turn piece right-side out. Edge stitch 1/4" on one small side of rectangle, and fold 5" toward the non-topstitched side of rectangle. This will create a pouch. Top stitch 1/4" around entire piece, closing small hole from turning.

Very confusing for beginner
Directions were not easy to follow or understand at all and I had to improvise a great deal

The fabric requirements for the large bag seem to be incorrect. How can one cut four 20" squares from a yard of fabric?
