WHAT IS THAT SMELL!?

I didn't expect this to have such a bad smell. It smells like the valve oil for a trumpet. As this is supposed to be cut into pieces for a table runner, I'm hoping a wash/soak will get rid of some of it. It looks great for what I'm using it for, my only complaint is the terrible smell.

Bad Smell

Normally I am happy with my Joann orders however this time the burlap they sent me smelled really bad. I went and ordered from http://burlapfabric.com and was pretty happy with what they sent me and the smell was better and they had other burlap too. Will still stick with Joann for everything else though

smelly cloth

This cloth is so disgusting it made me ill!! I've never had problems from Jo-Ann's fabrics before and after this event I'll notify whatever authorities will take charge of this problem so foreign manufacturers cannot ship this kind of stuff. I don't believe that JO-Ann's quality control is on the ball, right now! I wanted to make a rug out of it but after washing it twice, I gave up on it!

Burlap Quality

The burlap I purchased over this last season was definetly of a lesser quality than that which I have purchased in previous years from JoAnns. The price as gone up as the quality has gone down.

Poor Quality not for crafts

Very disappointed in the quality of this burlap compared to the previous stock that Joann's stores carried. Needed this for a scout rug hooking project, and I figured it would be an inexpensive alternative to linen burlap. I had purchased some a few years ago for another project from Joann's and it had been acceptable. Sadly, this fabric is too coarse, has too many slubs and defects and smells horrible! It would be useful for gardening, but not for crafts, cards or home decor.

Used for curtains

I bought this in 20 yard bold and washed it several times preparing it for dyeing. I had almost an entire trashbag full of lint, but kept going. I cut and finished the edges and then dyed. I like they way they turned out, they look distressed, which looks good, but because of all the lint and the holes on the sides I won't use it again. I was an experience I would try with better burlap, but the price couldn't be beat.
