Not worth the money
You are better off purchasing the essentials separately. The quality of the scissors is poor so you'd be hard pressed to come out with fabric cut well. The scissors feel like they will fall apart after half a dozen projects. They seem more suited to cutting stray threads than cutting out a proper piece of fabric. The pins are more like little nails. This would discourage a beginner sewer. Better suited for keeping int he car for an mergency (ie you went to class without the quality tools).

Just what you need
This kit has all of the tools you need to get started without a bunch of extras you don't. I bought this kit when I set up my own sewing station and am now buying it for my daughter to start hers. I highly recommend this kit for beginners and for those who need new or extra tools.

It's A Must-Have!
I'm currently taking a sewing class, and our teacher dished out a list of what we needed. I came across this and found that this kit covered pretty much EVERYTHING! Not to mention, the price isn't so bad either; better than paying for each individual product. I highly suggest getting this if you're new to sewing (just like me!); I'm going to buy it again for home projects!
