Terrible Quality

I have bought this fabric many times and I never had a problem but I bought a yard in Dec. for a quilt I was making to sell. The fabric had a kind of stiff feel and a sheen to it. The clerks told me it would be fine once I washed it. It wasn't, it was worse. I used it in a rag quilt which you wash after you sew and clip and it was horrible. It felt plastic-y. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that will soften the fabric?
