SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • TLC Baby yarn: 53/4 (6, 61/4, 61/2, 63/4) oz, Bright Pink
  • Circular knitting needles size 6 -- 24" and 5 -- 16"
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Stitch holders
  • One 3/8" pearl button
  • Sewing needle
  • Thread

GAUGE: 20 sts = 4"; 40 rows = 4" in Garter st (Knit every row OR Knit 1 rnd; Purl 1 rnd) with smaller needles. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

Directions are for size 6 months. Changes for sizes 12 months, 18 months, 2 years and 4 years are in parentheses.

DIRECTIONS:

SKIRT:

With larger needle, cast on 144 (168, 168, 192, 204) sts; join being careful sts are not twisted, placing a marker on needle between first and last st. Knit 1 rnd. Purl 1 rnd. Now work in Scallop pat as follows:

  1. Rnds 1 and 2: Knit.
  2. Rnd 3: * [K2tog] twice, [yo, K1] 4 times, [K2tog] twice; rep from * around -- 12 (14, 14, 16, 17) sections.
  3. Rnd 4: Purl.
  4. Rep Rnds 1-4 for Scallop Pat until approximately 9 (10, 10-1/2, 11, 11-1/2)" from beg, end by working Rnd 3.
  5. Yoke-Dec Rnd: P0 (0, 7, 2, 7), [P2tog, P1] 0 (1, 0, 3, 0) times, [P2tog, P1, P2tog, P1, P2tog] 18 (0, 0, 0, 0) times, [P2tog, P2tog, P2tog, P2tog, P1] 0 (18, 17, 19, 21) times, [P2tog, P1] 0 (1, 0, 3, 0) times, P0 (0, 8, 1, 8) -- 90 (94, 100, 110, 120) sts.
  6. Change to smaller needle and beg with a Knit rnd, work 6 (6, 8, 8, 10) rnds in Garter st.
  7. Divide-BACK-Next Row: K45 (47, 50, 55, 60); turn and put rem sts on a holder for Front.
  8. Now work back and forth in rows of Garter st until Back measures 4 (4-1/4, 4-1/2, 4-3/4, 5-1/4)" from beg of Garter st, end by knitting a wrong side row.
  9. Divide for Back Neck-Next Row: K13 (14, 15, 18, 20); attach another ball of yarn and bind off center 19 (19, 20, 19, 20) sts, Knit to end.
  10. Working both sides at the same time, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge until 9 (10, 11, 12, 12) sts rem.
  11. Bind off.

FRONT:

Work as for Back until 6 rows less than Back have been worked before neck division, end by knitting a wrong side row.

  1. Divide for Front Neck-Next Row: K19 (20, 21, 24, 26); attach another ball of yarn and bind off center 7 (7, 8, 7, 8) sts, Knit to end.
  2. Working both sides at the same time with separate balls of yarn, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge until 9 (10, 11, 12, 12) sts rem.
  3. Bind off.

SLEEVES:

With smaller needles, cast on 48 (48, 50, 54, 60) sts. Work back and forth across needle in rows as follows:

  1. Row 1 (Right Side): Knit.
  2. Row 2: Purl.
  3. Row 3: K0 (0, 1, 3, 0), * [K2tog] twice, [yo, K1] 4 times, [K2tog] twice; rep from * to last 0 (0, 1, 3, 0) sts; K0 (0, 1, 3, 0).
  4. Row 4: Knit.
  5. Rep Rows 1-4 for Scallop Pat 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) more times. Knit 4 (4, 4, 6, 6) rows.
  6. Bind off loosely.

FINISHING:

Neckband: Sew right shoulder seam. With smaller needle, cast on 4 sts then beg at corner of left front neck edge, pick up and K60 (62, 64, 68, 72) sts evenly around neck edge -- 64 (66, 68, 72, 76) sts. Knit 2 rows.

Buttonhole Row: Knit to last 4 sts, K2tog, yo, K2. Next Row: Knit. Bind off loosely knitwise on the wrong side. Sew left shoulder seam. Sew button to back band to correspond to buttonhole. Sew sleeve seams. Sew bind-off edge of Sleeves into armholes.
