ASSEMBLE FOOTSTOOL: Draw light pencil line on base around each leg. Remove legs. Penciled circle indicates where the fabric must not go. Paint legs; allow to dry. Mark center of each side of the stool and the edge of the fabric. Align the center mark of one long side of fabric with the mark on the stool. Staple fabric to the stool at that mark; staple once or twice on each side of middle. Repeat on the opposite side, pulling the fabric until snug; but do not stretch it out of shape. Staple both sides from the middle outward to 1" from the corner. Repeat on the short sides of the stool. Fold the corners in, working one at a time; trim excess fabric. Immediately staple down cut fabric to avoid raveling.
