Barbara Foster's excellent needle tatting teaching manual will ensure that you understand the absolute basics of tatting before you move on to more advanced techniques. Techniques covered include the true ring and self closing mock ring methods of making rings, both of which are in use in the needle tatting population. The classic join and methods for making chains are also taught together with a method of finishing off your ends, and a number of simple patterns are also included to help you to get started. By the time you have finished studying this book you should be a competent beginner and ready to move on to more advanced techniques such as split rings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great teacher I had tatted with a shuttle but needle tatting was all new to me. The book has large photographs of hands in each step of the needle method. Much better than line drawings. There are a few basic patterns to make such as bookmark (also doubles as towel trim,) Christmas wreath pin/decoration, an idea to make greeting cards with small tatted flowers. For a beginer this is a great teacher.
