SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Lion Brand® Vanna’s Choice®:
    Beige 1 ball (A)
    Raspberry 1 ball (C)
    Purple 1 ball (D)
    Burgundy 1 ball (E)
    or colors of your choice
  • Lion Brand® Cotton-Ease®:
    Almond 1 ball (B)
    or color of your choice
  • Lion Brand® crochet hook size G-6
  • Lion Brand® knitting needles size 4
  • Lion Brand® stitch markers
  • Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle
  • Foam ball: 3" diameter, cut in half (one half ball will be needed for each Cupcake)
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Small amount of white yarn
  • Craft glue
  • Knife
  • Scissors

SIZE

EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
sc2tog (sc decrease) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.
NOTES
1.
Work in continuous rnds; do not join or turn unless otherwise instructed.
2. Materials are sufficient for multiple Cupcakes.

BASE
With crochet hook and A, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around – 18 sc.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts; rep from * around – 24 sc.
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * around – 30 sc. Fasten off.

SIDE
With knitting needles and A, cast on 51 sts.
Row 1 (WS): * Purl 1, knit 2; rep from * across.
Row 2: * Purl 2, knit 1; rep from * across.
Rows 3-14: Rep Rows 1 and 2. Bind off.

FROSTING
With crochet hook and B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch. Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around – 18 sc.
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts; rep from * around – 24 sc.
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts; rep from * around – 30 sc.
Rnd 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts; rep from * around – 36 sc.
Rnds 7-11: Sc in each st around. Fasten off.

BERRY (use C, D or E)
With crochet hook, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 4 sc in first ch. Place marker in first stitch for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around – 8 sc.
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around – 12 sc.
Rnd 4-6: Sc in each st around – 12 sts. Begin adding stuffing after Rnd 4.
Rnd 7: Sc2tog around – 6 sts. Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail.
Finish stuffing, use yarn tail to gather open end.

FINISHING Seam ends of Side to make a loop. Sew one long edge of Side to Base. Weave in ends. Stuff firmly. Cover foam half ball with Frosting, allowing edge of Frosting to extend past ball. Place half ball onto Side of Cupcake and sew edge of Frosting to Side. Glue Berry to top of Cupcake. Snip 1/4 in. (6 mm) lengths of white yarn and glue to Frosting to make sprinkles.
