DIRECTIONS:

    • FINISHED SIZE:
    • One size to fit chest measurement 12-18 mos - 18"-19", Mermaid Sack – 21" long (excluding Tailfin) GAUGE 13 sc and 14 rows = 4"

    • Note: Mermaid Sack is worked in one piece from waist edge down.
    • Ch 90. Join with sl st to first ch, taking care not to twist ch.
    • Rnd 1: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. *Skip next 2 ch. 5 dc in next ch. Skip next 2 ch.** 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * around, ending last rep at **. Join with sl st to first sc. [Center back].
    • Rnd 2 [ridge rnd]: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. 1 scfl in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc.
    • Rnd 3: Ch 3 [counts as dc]. Working into rem back loop of each st from 2 rnds below, work 2 dc in first sc. *Skip next 2 sts. 1 sc in next st. Skip next 2 sts.** 5 dc in next st. Rep from * around, ending last rep at **. Work 2 dc in same sp as first 2 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.

    • Tailfin: Ch 27.
    • Row 1: [RS]. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 26 sc.
    • Row 2: Ch 1. 1 scbl in each sc to end of row. Turn.
    • Row 3: Ch 1. 1 scbl in each st to last 2 sts. Turn. Leave rem 2 sts unworked.
    • Rows 4 to 15: Rep last 2nd and 3rd rows 6 times more. 12 sts rem at end of 15th row.
    • Row 16: Ch 3. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next ch. 1 scbl in each sc to end of row. Turn.
    • Row 17: Ch 1. 1 scbl in each sc to end of row. Turn.
    • Rows 18 to 27: Rep 16th and 17th rows 5 times more.
    • Row 28: Ch 3. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in next ch. 1 scbl in each sc to end of row. Turn. 26 sts. Fasten off.
    • Gather straight edge of Tailfin to fit end of Tail. Sew Tailfin in position.

    • Bra Top Shells [make 2]
    • Ch 12.
    • Row 1: [RS]. Working into horizontal ‘bump’ at back of chain, sl st in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 3 ch. 1 hdc in each of next 7 ch. Turn. 11 sts.
    • Row 2: Ch 2 [does not count as st]. 1 hdcbl in each of first 7 sts. 1 scbl in each of next 3 sts. Sl st in last st. Turn.
    • Row 3: Ch 1. Sl st in first st. 1 scbl in each of next 3 sts. 1 hdcbl in each of last 7 sts. Turn.
    • Rep last 2 rows 3 times more, then 2nd row once. Do not fasten off.
    • Edging: Working across base of Shell with WS facing, ch 2. 2 hdc in same sp as last sl st. Work 5 hdc to opposite corner. 2 hdc in corner. Fasten off [first Shell only].
    • Join Shells: Do not fasten off 2nd Shell. Ch 2. Join with sl st to corner of Edging of first Shell. Sl st back in each of 2 ch. Fasten off. Stitch top corners or Shells tog at center front.
    • Side Ties: With RS facing, join yarn at side edge of Shell Edging. Work a chain 17” long. Sl st back into each ch to end of chain. Fasten off.
    • Neck Ties: With WS of Shell facing, join yarn with sl st in 4th st down from top edge and 2 rows in from outer edge. Work chain as for Side Ties.
